Top Cow’s Pilot Season continues this week with The Beauty, and despite the quality of the previous offerings so far, I think I have found my winner. After the first few pages, my instant reaction was ‘Who on Earth thinks this stuff up?” Of course, that has to be one of my favourite reactions, a reaction surprisingly uncommon after Grant Morrison, Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis established their reputations several years ago. In fact, the work of Mr Ennis made another debut this week in Stitched #1 from Avatar. I hate to say it, but unless the tale is going to have a dramatic twist in the next few issues, Read more »

The Cult of LEGO: Coffee Table Book Every AFOL Must Have
Is there a correlation between AFOLs and the love for reading? There must be at least one study out there that we just do not know about, but it does not matter. If you are an AFOL, whether or not you love to read, you will want this coffee table for Christmas. Or even for an early Christmas present. The book is titled The Cult of LEGO, and that is pretty much self-explanatory. Written by John Baichtal and Joe Meno, The Cult of LEGO will be released in November of this year and is 304 pages worth of LEGO goodness. Just in case those names do not exactly ring a Read more »

Super Mario Rubik’s Cube
It’s no secret that the Rubik’s Cube is one of the most fascinating toys ever made. It may not be viewed as a toy by some people, especially if the cube is a source of frustration. (I think I can be included in that group) While some people are able to solve the Rubik’s Cube in 20 moves, there are mortals like yours truly who just do not have what it takes to figure that nicely colored cube out. So what do we do when faced with the prospect of idle hours and not having anything but a Rubik’s Cube (or two, or three…)? I don’t know about you, but Read more »

Skin Art That’s So Strange It Will Mesmerize You
I remember the first time I saw images of the result of scarification and other rather disturbing ways of decorating one’s body. I really don’t want to see them again as I am particularly squeamish. I think I will stick to the “normal” ink tattoos any day. Then I ran across a different kind of skin art. Not exactly your run-of-the-mill tattoo, but not as painful to see as scarification either. This is how I think of the art of Ariana Page Russell, an artist with an MFA in Photography from the University of Washington, Seattle. To give you an idea of what she does, here is her own description Read more »
