EDIT: The original image is traced back to the young Jonathan Mak. I found an Apple logo with Steve’s silhouette serving as the bite mark. I don’t recall exactly where I found it, but I really wanted to turn it into a little tribute wallpaper. Problem was, the image was around 300 x 300 and really wouldn’t fit anything, even a mobile device. I opened Keynote and created a new presentation with a black background. Pasted the image and it auto-aligned with the rulers. Added the text. It was that easy. Many years ago, creating something like this would have taken about 5 minutes if you were any good. Punctuation Mark Lamps for the Grammar Geek
This discovery has got me all excited that I just had a difficult time writing this post. I am not passionate about interior decoration, but I do have my quirks and when I see something really cool for the house, I get all enthusiastic about it. And what can be cooler than these lamps which are shaped like punctuation marks? If you think about it, these punctuation mark lamps can go both ways. On one hand, just like me, you might go gaga over them simply because you work with punctuation every day. You’re a stickler for their proper use. On the other hand, you might stay clear of the Read more »

Helveticards for the Card-loving Typophile
So what’s your favorite font? Sue me, but I am a Comic Sans lover. I still remember using this font as the default for my work e-mail back in the day. Needless to say, I got a lot of flak for that. I have since then graduated to Helvetica, but only because that is the default font of my laptop now. Speaking of fonts, if you are in dire need of a funny read, check out this monologue on McSweeney’s – I’m Comic Sans, Asshole. I read it yesterday and just read it now again for more laughs. Warning (as if you needed one): it might not be safe for Read more »

Flowchart for NPR’s Best Fantasy and Science Fiction Books
Remember the list that NPR published earlier this year? Titled “Your Picks: Top 100 Science-Fiction, Fantasy Books“, the list has caught the attention of every science fiction and fantasy enthusiast in the planet. And then some. If memory serves me correctly, there was even a question (or poll) going around on Facebook asking people to indicate how many of the books they have read. Or maybe that was another list. In any case, NPR’s best fantasy and science fiction books list is quite impressive, and I have to admit that I have a long way to go – both in terms of science fiction and fantasy. I do, however, recognize Read more »
