Fans of the series probably reminisce about it every once in a while, but have you ever wondered what happened to the actors that made the series what it is? You’d be surprised at how often you’ll come across a voice from Sailor Moon even after 20 years.

Sailor Moon – Kotono Mitsuishi

Born on December 8, 1967, Kotono Mitsuishi made her debut in the anime voice acting business playing Tomoyo in Gunbuster, but it wasn’t until she played Usagi Tsukino in Sailor Moon that she rose to fame. Following her rise to stardom, she played other notable roles including Misato Katsuragi in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Juri Arisugawa in Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Excel in Excel Saga. While she is now married and has a daughter, she continues to work as a voice actress. She is currently playing the roles of Boa Hancock in One Piece, Hidemi Hondou in Detective Conan, Masumi Ageo in Crayon Shin-chan, and Eucliwood Hellscythe in the recently finished Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? of the Dead.

Sailor Mercury – Aya Hisakawa

Born on November 12, 1968, Aya comes from the city of Kaizuka in Osaka prefecture. She is most well-known for her role as Ami Mizuno in Sailor Moon, but also played the roles of Kero in Card Captor Sakura, Skuld in Ah! My Goddess, and Haruka Shitow in RahXephon. She occasionally does some voice acting in the Kansai dialect, as with Kero in the first episode of Card Captor Sakura. From the mid-90’s to early 2000’s, Aya also released several songs as a J-pop artist. While Aya hasn’t had many glamorous roles recently, she’s still an active voice actress, playing roles several side characters in Detective Conan, Lola in One Piece, several characters in Sket Dance, and Yoriko Yasaka in Haiyore! Nyaruko-san.

Sailor Mars – Michie Tomizawa

By the time Sailor Moon aired, Michie had already established herself as a prominent voice actress thanks to her roles as Linna Yamazaki in Bubblegum Crisis and Shiko Kotobuki in Project A-Ko. Her role as Rei Hino gave her the opportunity to sing “Eien no Melody”, the song that Rei performed in Sailor Moon R. Michie’s other notable roles include Sumire Kanzaki in Sakura Taisen and Airi Komiyama in Those Who Hunt Elves. She retired in 2002 to get married and start a family.

Sailor Jupiter – Emi Shinohara

Her other roles include Ophelia in Claymore, Carrera Maaka in Karin, and Youko Mizuno in Maria-sama ga Miteru. Many fans view her as the “mom” of anime because she plays many mother roles. She is still playing numerous mother characters, including Misaka’s mom from A Certain Magical Index 2, Naruto’s mom from Naruto: Shippuden, Shichika’s mom in Katanagatari, and Jessica’s mom from Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

Rica shares the same birthday as Emi Shinohara: August 8, 1963 and she’s a certified hypnotherapist. It wasn’t until after Sailor Moon that she began playing more prominent roles such as Myung Fang Long in Macross Plus and Beneej Spoor in Crest of the Stars. Her most recent roles were as Eriko Oginome in Mawaru Penguindrum and Aiyan Meyer in Lupin the Third: Mine Fujiko to Iu Onna. Neither character has much presence in their respective series.
