I have a problem. I’m obsessed with Dishonored. I know it’s not healthy, but I can’t help it. This game looks like a gloriously ingenious play experience.
I’m not going to reiterate all our previous coverage of this game. Suffice it to say, it’s going to be like nothing else you’ve ever played, with its combination of unusual superpowers used by its assassin protagonist, and a completely invented, Victorian-era-style world. The variety of choices players can make in how they play the game reminds me of Deus Ex, while the production design of its setting shares some stylistic similarities to Half-Life 2‘s City 17. (Not surprising, considering the same artist designed both locations.) It’s really the superpowers that look the most tantalizing, though: teleportation, animal/human possession, time manipulation, and much more.
Arkane Studios just released a new trailer (embedded above) for Dishonored that shows off the stealth approach to playing the game. There’s nothing revolutionary to Dishonored‘s version of stealth play; gamers will recognize how darkness more or less makes the main character invisible, and how crouching drastically reduces the noise he makes while sneaking around.
Still can’t wait to get my hands on those special powers, though.
Dishonored drops October 9th for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
