Sunday, November 18th. That’s the first day you’ll be able to buy a Wii U of your very own. It comes in two packages — at two price points — with a healthy launch lineup, live TV integration, and a slew of accessories. Here we go.

Deluxe Set / Basic Set

At a special press event today, Nintendo finally announced the full details about its new touchscreen tablet-based gaming console, the Wii U. The console will come in two versions. The “Basic Set” includes the console with 8GB of internal storage, the touchscreen “GamePad” controller, a motion sensor bar, two AC adapters, and an HDMI cable, for $299. Then there’s the “Deluxe Set,” which includes 32GB of internal console storage, GamePad, motion sensor bar, two AC adapters, HDMI cable, Nintendo Land, a console stand, a charging cradle for the GamePad, a stand that lets you place the GamePad vertically on a table, and an enrollment in the “Digital Deluxe Program.” The Basic Set comes in white, while the Deluxe Set is black.

Nintendo Land

Nintendo Land is a social virtual theme park, where your Mii can play attraction-style games based on Nintendo’s most popular game worlds. (Think of it as Nintendo’s answer to PlayStation Home, ’cause that’s really what it is.) You can play each game solo or with up to four other friends. The twelve “attractions” include games based on The Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Luigi, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong, PikminThe Mysterious Murasame Castle, F-Zero, Balloon Trip, Yoshi, and Octopus. Nintendo Land will also be available as a separate purchase, for Basic Set owners, priced at $59.99. (I guess that answers whether or not new games will keep the Wii’s old price point of $49.99.)

The Digital Deluxe Program is kind of like Xbox Live Rewards for downloadable games. Participating in the program gives you points for every digital item you download from Nintendo’s eShop. Your points can later be used to buy additional downloads.

TVii

Another major new component of Wii U was announced today. It’s called TVii, and it’s looking to steal Microsoft’s thunder for putting live TV on the Xbox. TVii brings together all of your television content sources under a single umbrella that’s social-friendly. You use the GamePad controller as a programming guide to find what you want to watch, and then you’re presented with all available options for watching it. Say you want to watch a Harry Potter movie. You select the one you want, and then TVii lists the various ways you can get it from, such as renting from Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon Instant Video, or just record it from an upcoming TV broadcast on your cable or satellite provider. It’s also got TiVo and YouTube integration. You can recommend shows and movies to your friends, using the GamePad, as well as getting a “second screen” experience with added content on the GamePad while your programming is playing on the television. TVii comes free with every Wii U.

Lastly, Nintendo announced its lineup of 50 games for the Wii U’s “launch window.” That’s a marketing term signifying the first five or six months of the console’s life cycle. (They haven’t narrowed down the actual launch titles yet.) Here’s the full list.
