Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials

One of my favorite games of the year, Dishonored, is getting at least three add-on packs over the coming months. Here’s what we know.

The first DLC pack is called “Dunwall City Trials,” and includes ten “challenge maps” that are made to test your combat, stealth, and Blinking skills. There’s no storyline for this pack, since it’s made up of obstacle courses (of a sort), but it sounds like a lot of fun. One of the ten levels is said to be a large arena that spits out endless waves of enemies, which you have to survive for as long as you can. Another tests your skill with drop assassinations, one of Corvo’s unique take-down abilities in the game, which not only kill enemies but can also cushion your fall from incredible heights. This level sounds as if it starts with short heights and gives you higher and higher drop assassinations to make as you go. Another level pits you against a ticking clock, needing to traverse a space using running and Corvo’s Blink (aka, teleportation) power. “Dunwall City Trials” comes with new Achievements and Trophies, as well as a leaderboard that ranks your standings against other players worldwide. This first pack will be released in December for $4.99. The first screenshot is seen above.

The second DLC pack is a story-driven campaign, set in the game’s continuity, that sends you on a mission to learn more about and take on the assassin Daud and his supernatural assassins known as “The Whalers.” It’s said to include new districts in Dunwall to explore, and just like the game, the choices you make will determine the mission’s outcome. This pack is expected in “early Spring 2013,” but no price has been given yet. (Sounds like a standard $9.99 DLC pack to me.)

Arkane Studios isn’t ready to detail the third pack just yet, but promises fans that this too will be a story-driven campaign set in a new part of Dunwall. All three packs are expected to release on the same date for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
