Any fantasy enthusiast has a decent imagination. At the very least.
I am sure that we all have our own versions of what the characters of our favorite fantasy tales look like, how their villages are arranged, how their houses are designed, and so on. It’s all part of loving the genre. We make up images in our heads to suit ourselves. I’m sure some psychobabble can applied at this point, but let’s not go there.
One thing that always captures my attention, however, are maps of these fantastical worlds. And why not? Most of the great works of fantasy are set in worlds of their own, with intricate details about the locations. And, when it comes to intricate details, George R.R. Martin is a master. That, no one can dispute.
So yes, the announcement about the Game of Thrones map collection is something that I am excited about. Aptly titled “The Lands of Ice and Fire”, the book is all about maps and details.
From the Seven Kingdoms and all its lands to the Narrow Sea to the lands beyond the Narrow Sea – we will be treated to exquisitely drawn maps that might already exist in our imaginations. Seeing the “real deal” is just like icing on the cake – unless your imagination is totally way off and your sense of direction is even worse, and you find that the maps in the The Lands of Ice and Fire are totally different from what you have imagined!
More than regular maps, however, the The Lands of Ice and Fire also features an alternative version which shows the movements of the protagonists in the story.
As exciting as this piece of news is, we have to be patient a little longer as The Lands of Ice and Fire won’t be out till the 30th. In the meantime, here are some teaser images to keep you company as you daydream about Westeros.
The Lands of Ice and Fire is available for preorder on Amazon for only $26.40. If you really want it, better preorder as the regular price is $40.
