George Lucas to Give Disney Sale Money to Charity

George Lucas

All 4 billion dollars of it! Well, not all, but most of it.

I don’t know how you reacted to the news that Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, but I am sure you’ve seen all the silly images about Princess Leia turning Disney princess, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse finding out they’re siblings after all, and Darth Vader suddenly growing mouse eyes – among so many other takes on the sale.

Some of you might even have said that you saw this sale coming, but what you might not have foreseen is this new development: George Lucas, who has received his fair share of bashing, is giving a huge chunk of the proceeds of the sale to charity. And this is not a hoax.

Lucas is the sole owner of the company, and as things stand, Lucasfilm has little or no debt. That pretty much puts Lucas in a golden position, but he is not going to hoard his treasures like Smaug and his kind did. Instead, Lucas says that the a huge portion of his money will be funnelled into a foundation that will focus on education.

With the sale not being finalized at the moment, there are also no details as to which specific foundation is going to receive the funding. The George Lucas Educational Foundation does exist, but we can’t discount the possibility that the billionaire will start a new entity. At the end of the day, though, it does not matter which foundation he chooses as long as people benefit from it.

Attaboy, is all I can think of right now. And, if I were a basher in the past, I just might be sorry for all the things that have been said about his “greed”.
