All of the VGA Trailers

It’s become a tradition that every year at Spike’s Video Game Awards, big developers and publishers make announcements about new games and trot out their latest trailers. Here’s a complete collection of every new trailer shown at this year’s VGAs, just a few nights ago.

In the order in which they were presented:

Dark Souls II

Assassin’s Creed III: The Tyranny of King Washington

Some people are going to have trouble with this one, which is set in an alternate reality where George Washington became a tyrannical king over America, instead of helping establish it as a democratic republic. But at least Ubisoft has a good story reason for it: this DLC pack asks “what if” Washington had come into possession of an Apple of Eden, and it corrupted him? Watch to the very end for a few glimpses at Connor’s new look in this alternate reality.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadows 2

Gears of War: Judgment

Halo 4: Spartan Ops Season One

The Last of Us

Naughty Dog at last announced the release date for this bad boy: May 7, 2013. Which is actually a lot sooner than I expected. They also took this opportunity to show off a whole slew of new locations and a great deal of the interpersonal character drama that they do so well.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Tomb Raider

It may be looking more and more like Uncharted, but who cares? I’m drooling over every frame of this game. Me. Want. Now.

“The Phantom Pain” aka Metal Gear Solid 5

So in case you haven’t heard the hubbub, there was this trailer for a heretofore unannounced game called The Phantom Pain at the VGAs, which is supposedly being made by an unknown developer. The thing is, Kojima & Co. are just yanking our chains here with a little bit of fun viral marketing. Watch it and you’ll see that it’s obviously the next Metal Gear Solid game. Hardcore fans will see all sorts of little hints throughout this trailer about what it really is, but I point to the trademark Snake mullet as the only evidence you really need. This trailer unleashes a gigantic can of crazy spray, so brace yourself.

BioShock Infinite

Yeah, it still looks spellbinding. There’s no doubt whatsoever that this game is going to make your brain explode. In a good way.

But I’ve kind of hit critical mass on the BioShock Infinite trailers now. I’m at the point where I don’t want to see any more trailers or have any more big moments spoiled for me. Enough. I just want the game!

Oh, and it’s delayed again, just a little bit. Irrational needs added time to polish and tweak, yadda yadda yadda, you know the rest.
