There’s just no end to the joy that LEGO can bring, is there? Yesterday, we got wind of the life-sized LEGO Bag End creation, and we were treated to a video of how it came to be. I am sure that inspired an AFOL or two to come up with something just as epic.

Moving away from Tolkien’s masterpiece – it’s not easy, I know – there is another bit of news that will give LEGO fans more reason to look forward to the next year: the Back to the Future LEGO set!

Earlier this year, the guys at Geekosystem already alerted everyone about the possibility of a Back to the Future LEGO set. There was no certainty back then, though, but just as many people are wondering if the world is really going to end, we get this exciting piece of news.

Back to the Future LEGO is really going to happen.

The results of the CUUSOO summer review have been announced, and it looks like Lady Luck has bestowed her sweet smile upon fans of Back to the Future. In case you’re not aware, CUUSOO runs on a system wherein modelers turn in their concepts, with the aim of having LEGO actually make sets out of them. The goal is to get 10,000 votes from the community. If that figure is reached, LEGO then makes the decision as to whether or not the concept becomes reality.

In the case of the Back to the Future LEGO set, things went very well. LEGO and Universal have agreed to partner up to make this project come to fruition. No specific date has been set for the release – we’re still in the very early stages after all – but sometime in mid-2013 has been mentioned.

Here’s a video of the LEGO CUUSOO Summer Review results. Yes, it is official!
