March Madness – Star Wars Style

Forget the NCAA basketball tournament and all those “brackets” that people can’t get enough of. StarWars.com has launched a fan-voting “bracket” tournament to determine, once and for all, the most popular character in the Star Wars universe.

Who’s your favorite Star Wars character? Most of us would probably cite a player from the original trilogy like Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, Yoda, Artoo, Boba Fett, or Vader. Some might point to the few standouts from the prequels, like Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, General Grievous, or… actually, that’s probably about it. You might even have a favorite from The Clone Wars TV series, such as Cad Bane, Asajj Ventress, or Ahsoka Tano.

Whoever you think is most deserving of the “Most Popular Star Wars Character,” this is your chance to propel him, her, or it to #1, once and for all. The brackets — in a contest dubbed “This Is Madness!” — are broken down between the Light and Dark Sides, aka heroes vs. villains, and the entire list will be narrowed down on a daily basis, starting March 18th. On April 9th, it’ll all be over and a champion will be crowned.

Lord Vader makes his case in the video above, inviting you to vote for him. Which is probably a pretty good idea. It doesn’t take a genius to predict it’ll probably come down to him and Yoda in the final round.

Oh, and in case you’re worried, let me save you the trouble of scouring the bracket below… Lucasfilm was smart enough to not bother including Jar Jar.

  1. The Indianapolis Children’s Museum is having a bracket of their own for March Madness. Since it is Geek-related, I thought I’d pass it along. They have a Superhero bracket. http://www.childrensmuseum.org/superheroes Today’s matchup… Hercules vs. Nightcrawler (as of this writing, Nightcrawler is winning).
