Defending Evolution Through Animation

My name Jon Perry, I’m an artist, I’m a science advocate, and I am the founder of Stated Clearly. At Stated Clearly we teach Genetics and Evolution through animations like this one here:

Teaching Evolution

The theory of evolution has been accepted by the scientific community for over 100 years now. It’s the foundation of Biology, it has led to countless discoveries in zoology, biology, geology, medicine, and conservation science. In spite of all this, almost half of all Americans reject it according to the 2012 Gallop poll.

Not only is Evolution rejected in America, it is hated by many. Check out the YouTube comment I received a few weeks ago on an animation I did which teaches Evolution:

“You need to be destroyed for making this buls*** heresy. You NEED to be taken out of the picture for this”

The anonymity of YouTube tends to make people feel overly comfortable tossing out threats or being vulgar so I never take these comments too seriously, but you get the idea, some people REALLY hate the science of Evolution. Why?

War between Science and Religion?

In pop culture today, there is a “war” going on between science and religion. This battle of ideas has taken a huge toll on education in America, it’s caused millions of dollars to be wasted in legal battles, it has stopped good science from being taught in class, and in my opinion, the conflict doesn’t even need to exist. It’s founded on trumped up charges. Evolution says nothing about God, it simply explains how biology works.

The most vocal opponents of evolution in the US are the Bible based Christians – Evolution, some claim, is a threat to the Bible. You’ve probably heard that before but you might be surprised to find that many religious folks have no problem with Evolution. Roughly 78 million Christians in the US have found a way to accept Darwin’s discovery while simultaneously maintaining their faith in God AND their confidence in the Bible.

Pope John Paul II spoke kindly of Evolution in his 1996 address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

In 2007, a group of Bible based Evangelical Christians started the Biologos Foundation – an organization which aims to help Christians accept evolution without weakening their faith.

Many prominent religious Universities such as the Mormon Church’s Brigham Young University, teach the theory of Evolution without qualms. BYU has even produced ground breaking research on the Evolution of insects.

In spite of all this positive acceptance of the science, evolution is still considered to be extremely offensive and controversial to many people. Stated Clearly hopes to help change this.

Help us Defend Evolution!

Teaching and defending evolution can be difficult but at Stated Clearly is here to help. We are creating a 21 part series on Genetics and Evolution which teaches these subjects in a friendly visual manner. We avoid language that might be unnecessarily offensive, we illustrate the concepts of Genetics and Evolution with clear colorful illustrations, we encourage people to explore their curiosity.

The videos are free on YouTube and will also be available for purchase at forevergeek.com for those who want to watch without an internet connection or would like to avoid being bothered by YouTube advertisements.

We have completed 4 videos so far and are currently raising funds at Kickstarter to continue our project. Here is a link to our fundraiser:

Contribute if you are able and help us spread the word about our project through Twitter, Facebook, good old-fashioned word-of-mouth, and by any means you can! We need all the help we can get. The Fundraiser ends December 20, 2013.

Can you name ONE discovery in any branch of science inspired by the evolutionary theory of common descent of all life forms from one theoretical ancestral life form?
