While Marvel Comics have been lording it over the big screen, DC Comics has been slowly invading our televisions. With Smallville and Green Arrow as their most popular offerings (a moment of silence for Birds of Prey and the Wonder Woman show that never made it to life), we can also expect to see a show about The Flash, John Constantine, and Jim Gordon. As much as we love all that testosterone, we’d be lying if we said that we wished we had more female-led shows and movies.
Dr. Harleen Quinzel had a life, you know. She wasn’t just a psychiatrist for Arkham Asylum. She had hopes and dreams too! Alas, the day she met the Joker changed everything. Harley Quinn is the clown princess of crime and though her on-again, off-again relationship with the Joker is more than a little unstable, she can always count on her equally hot bestie, Poison Ivy, to have her back. We’d gladly watch a twisted comedy starring these two!
If you dare call Huntress a ‘Batman wannabe’, prepare to get caught in the crosshairs of her famous crossbow. She has an attitude that gets on Batman’s nerves and she doesn’t even care. Helena Bertinelli isn’t your average brooding vigilante. She has the skill set, the spandex, and the mafia connections that make her stand out.
Talia Al Ghul
Talia brings ‘hot and cold’ to a new and deadly level. We have no idea whether she’s about to kiss the Caped Crusader or kill him, and that’s all part of her charm. Known to the rest of the world as a terrorist, only us fans know who she really is. A sinfully intelligent and seductive woman that no rational man (or woman!) can resist. Just ask Bats.
Heist movies tend to be well-received. Though we don’t think it technically counts as a heist film if only one person is doing the stealing, we’d still fall in line to watch a well made Catwoman movie. What? DC already made one? I have no idea what you’re talking about.
I admit I’m a little biased. Ever since I started reading DC, Zatanna Zatara has been number one in my heart (but not on this list). I’m a big fan of magic in movies and TV but I admit I’m going to have trouble watching a show with Zatanna running around, saying spells backwards… And all because of that tuxedo-swimsuit-fishnet stockings combo.
We’ll never give up on the dream, the ultimate dream that the queen of DC Comics, Wonder Woman, will finally get the film and/or TV show she deserves. We know she’s slated to appear in the upcoming Superman vs Batman movie, but we have high hopes that her solo movie won’t be an embarrassment. Our one and only Amazon princess has more than enough mythology for multiple seasons of TV or, dare we say it, an excellent movie trilogy. Just leave the invisible jet at Themyscira and we’re good to go.
