Seeing Christopher Lloyd (Doc Brown of Back to the Future, for the uninformed) carry a case that held a “real-life, working hoverboard” was enough to set our pulses racing. Logic? Screw that. Actual costs to manufacture and distribute? We’re not listening. The only thing on our minds was that the dream was finally made real. Seeing Tony Hawk try it out was the icing on the cake.

But Devin Faraci broke our spirit. He confirmed that it was nothing but a viral video that the evil, evil men and women at Funny or Die came up with.

After we picked up the pieces of our broken heart when news broke that the HUVr skateboard was a hoax, we decided to get proactive. So instead of sulking, throwing fits, or rolling around on the floor while throwing a tantrum, we decided to compile a list of the best concept art for Back To The Future-inspired hoverboards.

If you haven’t seen the commercial that crushed our dreams, you can find it below.

The original hoverboard for Back to the Future went through multiple versions. Here are the photos for its concept art from co-writer/producer Bob Gale’s collection:

Though the pain and heartbreak is still there, we’re slowly recovering. Maybe it’ll be real the next time. Maybe.
