Going all the way back to when Stan Lee ran the promotional arm of Marvel, fans knew that if there’s one thing they did well, it was engaging the fans. They know how to get fans excited about their characters, their stories, and their creators. That’s why every year at San Diego Comic-Con, the Marvel booth is always more of a stage, right in the middle of the exhibition hall. And at any given time, you might run into your favorite comic writers and artists hanging out or you might find the stars of the latest Marvel blockbuster film signing autographs for the fans. One of the more recent additions to the “Marvel Stage” are the cosplay showcases throughout the week. If you dress up as an Avenger, you can join other Avengers cosplayers from all over the world on that stage to show off what you got. Same goes for X-Men or the endless variations of Spider-Man, or even the Defenders. Yes, even the Defenders!

This year, Marvel has taken things one step further at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. They’ve put together a weekly web series that showcases what goes into creating some of the most elaborate and faithful costumes found in the Marvel Universe. Even if you don’t cosplay, it just might inspire you to try it next year just to join in the fun.

Here’s the official press release:

New York, NY—July 8th, 2014 — Marvel Method: Cosplay is the first Marvel Original Video Series to go inside the process of building a Marvel costume, culminating in its big reveal at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. Join Lorraine Cink, Host and Writer of Marvel’s The Watcher, and Judy Stephens, Associate Producer/ Cosplay Expert, as they seek out help and advice from professional costumer, Carly Bradt; Wig Expert, Katie Hondrogen; and professional Cosplayer, Yaya Han.

But who will these Marvel mavens of cosplay choose as their inspiration?

“After considering so many powerful women of the Marvel Universe, we continued to be drawn back to the Scarlet Witch”, says Cink. “Her recent death in Uncanny Avengers, her upcoming appearance in Marvel’s The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and her stunning redesign by John Cassaday for the Marvel NOW! initiative all played part in our ultimate decision to build her costume. However, the true linchpin for me was that Wanda Maximoff is one of the most complex, dynamic and powerful players in the Marvel Universe – who could resist the opportunity to be her for a day?”
