Yoshirou Miyaji, the general manager of NEC predicts the technology will become more popular in 2010. Miyaji is expecting 50% of cars in Japan and 20% of the cars in the world to begin using the image processor. It will also be used in the areas of security, gaming, and robotics, though the article doesn’t go into details.

My favorite feature is the shelf. Clicking the clipboard icon on the bottom bar will bring up the shelf, which lets you save URLs, text, and images for later reference. This is especially useful for research, or is just nice for when you want to organize information in a browsing session.

Another great feature is the star button. The star button gets rid of the clumsy bookmarking system that plagues every other browser I know of, by allowing you to click the star button next to the URL bar. This automatically places these URLs into your bookmarks. Flock has some other great features that you can try out for yourself in the app.

According to the rumor site, the upcoming software is code named “Chameleon” and is being developed alongside both Intel and Microsoft.

Virtualization software would potentially allow users to run alternative operating systems alongside Mac OS X. There has been previous discussion about Virtualization Technology support in Intel’s processors.

Maybe now, things are a little better. Maybe Dell is so concerned with the quality of their product, that they will even take the steps to fix a product that isn’t broken. That’s what happened to a reader of The New York Times. He wrote an email to Dell praising their 19″ flat panel screen to “balance the negative karma from the assertive complaining I do”. This was the email that Dell sent back to him:

Thank you for contacting Dell about your issue. I’m glad to be of assistance. I sense you are not getting optimal performance from your system. I want to help you get it working quickly so you can enjoy your computer.

Can we expect to see a universal binary any time soon?

I am currently working on Conversation 3, and I expect to release it as a universal binary. The developments are in their initial stages, I expect a release during spring.

3rd Question: NetNewsWire

Is there a Universal Binary coming in the near future?

The short answer: as soon as possible. This winter.

The long answer: the next release of NetNewsWire will have some new features, bug and performance fixes, and will of course include NewsGator syncing. It will also be a universal binary — and a free upgrade for existing users.

If we haven’t talked about NetNewsWire a whole lot lately, it’s because we’re heads-down working hard on the next release. Expect to start hearing more about it soon.

1. Your Favorites, To Go – with Privacy
For each favorite, you can now choose to either store it online or keep it local. Better yet, Shadows lets you keep your online favorites private, so you can get your favorites from any computer without publishing them to the world. Shadows also stores your Flock collection structure. The net effect: if you’re using Shadows, you can get your favorites “to go.”

2. Import Firefox Settings
Flock 0.5.11 imports your bookmarks, passwords, cookies, etc. from Firefox and other browsers. Flock tags your imported bookmarks based on Firefox folder names, and lets you find them from the ol’ search box.

Digg

Digg first appeared in late 2004 as a beta, and was programmed by Owne Byrne but publicized by Kevin Rose. Digg’s success was first apparent when a story about Paris Hilton’s cell phone being hacked appeared there. Since then digg’s success has been unstoppable. I’ve been a digg user since early 2005 and it just so happens that I am the 5th highest user on digg.

This is the way Digg works. A user submits a story here.

Step 1. Enter the URL

Step 2. Enter a title and description, and choose a catagory

Step 3. The story appears in the Digg All section, which can be viewed in either Story View or Cloud View

Step 4. User diggs the story, which sends an XMLHttpRequest, so that you are not required to refresh the page. The more diggs a story gets, the more likely it is to get on the homepage.

Step 5. If the story gets enough diggs it’s promoted to the homepage.

A great feature of digg is the friends feature. You can add friends and when they digg a story, the story gets a little green banner on it, letting you know that one of your friends dugg it.

Digg’s Pros:

A very effecient process for a story getting exposed.
Digg Spy, just check it out.

No threaded comments.
No user blocking.

1. Find Out When Macs Log onto your Network

Using a combination of the open-source FTP client Cyberduck and Growl you can find out when other computers running Mac OS X log onto your computer. I use this when I’m in public areas, it’s just fun to see when someone is opening or starting up their computer.

Step 1. Download Cyberduck
Step 2. Open Cyberduck, and keep it running.
Step 3. Wait for someone to open their Mac and a Growl notification to appear in the top right corner.

2. Become notified when a new iTunes song Plays

Using GrowlTunes and iTunes, Growl will notify you of when the song changes and what song that it is changing to.

Step 1. Install GrowlTunes from the Growl Disk image (it’s bundled)
Step 2. Open iTunes and listen to music.

I think in the future, more developers will begin building Growl into their applications, or maybe Apple will incorporate a similar feature in Mac OS X: Leopard.
