At this point, who knows if the rumors are true… Apple really hasn’t said anything about Leopard except that it’s going to be named Leopard and going to be shown in August at WWDC. Despite this, MacOSXRumors is claiming that they have “reliable sources” telling them there will be virtualization in 10.5, or in other words, you will be able to easily run alternative operating systems such as Linux and Windows. According to the rumor site, the upcoming software is code named “Chameleon” and is being developed alongside both Intel and Microsoft. Virtualization software would potentially allow users to run alternative operating systems alongside Mac OS X. There has been Read more »

Google Finance Launches
In a continuing competition with Yahoo, Google has announced a financial service properly named “Google Finance”. The new service gives you 15-minute delayed stock quotes, and incorporates some very nice Flash. If you type in a stock quote, say IMAX for instance, it gives you a list of news stories on the right side of the screen, and in the charts, it points markers to when those news stories were released. Dell can't Take a Compliment
If you’ve ever owned a Dell product before, you’re probably familiar with Dell tech support. I remember back when I owned my old 8-pound Dell laptop I had so many problems with it. The screen constantly was flickering, it completely stopped working twice. The CD drive broke, and so did the touchpad. Yes, it was a terrible, terrible computer. That’s when I had my first few experiences with Dell tech support. The wait times were long, and the tech support agent was talking to probably 2-4 other people at once. That was a few years ago. Maybe now, things are a little better. Maybe Dell is so concerned with the Read more »
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report are Now on iTunes
Yesterday, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report (both shows on Comedy Central) were added to the iTunes Music Store. The shows can be bought for a much more reasonable price than other shows, as long as you use the Multi-Pass. This new feature allows you to do the same thing you do on Tivo with a season pass. Multi-Pass requires you to pay $9.99 for 16 episodes of either show, where as the individual episodes cost the average price of $1.99 a piece. iTunes Links The Daily Show The Colbert Report Read more »
Burn GameCube ISOs to Mini-DVDs and Play Them
In a recent forum post at AfterDawn, a user explains how to burn GameCube ISOs to mini-dvds, which are afterwards playable. The process is long, and requires the purcahse of specific hardware. The whole thing seems like it takes more trouble than it’s worth, and I have not been able to verify the validity as I do not have a GameCube, but if you can verify these claims please post in the comments. First Mac OS X: Leopard Features (10.5) Revealed?
Some new patents regarding new spotlight features have surfaced, that could be what Apple is planning to use in their new operating system Mac OS X: Leopard, or Mac OS X 10.5. No real news regarding the new operating system, which is estimated to be released in December of 2006 – early 2007, had been uncovered yet. The only other news is that Apple’s yearly World Wide Developer Conference would be held on August 7-11, later than the usual June/July meetings. This may mean that Apple is behind in the development and most likely will push the date back into Janruary. These new patents give spotlight more capabilities which can Read more »
Questions – Camino, Conversation, and NetNewsWire
I’ve been talking to some Mac developers recently, regarding mostly universal binaries but also features. I recently got a new iMac (Core Duo) and I’ve been trying to find out when the UBs will be coming. 1st Question: Camino (asked in IRC: irc.mozilla.org #camino) Is there going to be RSS Detection for Camino any time soon? Yes, it’s planned for version 1.1 (After this question everybody started complaining that they get this question 30 times a day.) 2nd Question: Conversation Can we expect to see a universal binary any time soon? I am currently working on Conversation 3, and I expect to release it as a universal binary. The developments Read more »
Flock Browser Gets an Update (0.5.11)
By now, you’ve probably heard about the web broser, Flock. Flock is based off of Firefox and integrates various web services directly into the browser. Of course, the software is still in beta so there are still quite a few bugs that are left to be fixed. The latest updates are ones that were needed and I’m glad the developers were able to get it off of their checklist. Here are the best new features in my opinion: 1. Your Favorites, To Go – with Privacy For each favorite, you can now choose to either store it online or keep it local. Better yet, Shadows lets you keep your online Read more »
