I am a huge fan of the Totally Rad Show, and it is easy to see why. The hosts are interesting, especially Alex Albrecht. The episode I am watching right now is Episode 42. The fact that they have put out fourty-two episodes already says a fair bit about how committed they are to making this show a success. The Totally Rad Show is a web based show from Revision3 that covers movies, video games, television shows, and comic books from a geeky perspective. Watch a dozen shows or so, and you quickly feel like you are friends with the three hosts and that you could hang out with them. Read more »

One Month Revision3 Only
So I have decided that I am going to try a little experiment. Currently, there is a writer’s strike still going on, so this shouldn’t be too difficult, but I am going to take a month, and the only media I am going to watch has to come from Revision3. That is the company that does Diggnation, The Totally Rad Show, Systm, Tekzilla and many others. For me, this means no GeekBrief.tv. I will miss you Cali, but I think that Revision3 has grown enough now that it can sustain this geek’s television programming needs. This means no online or offline video, unless it comes from Revision3. I have a Read more »
India Offers World's Cheapest Car
Over on the International Herald Tribune, there is an article that talks about our ever cheapening society, when it comes to technology, and it seems cars will no longer be excluded from that list, as a manufacturer in India is creating a car that will be sold for a fraction of today’s automobiles. Calling itself the car of the people, the vehicle is set to retail at around $2,500. From the article: But the still-untold story of how the Tata car was built is less about big-bang innovations than about a long string of $20 trims: a steering-wheel shaft rendered hollow here, a small headlight leveler removed there, the use Read more »
Xerox Retires Logo: Kills Brand?
One of the things that all companies want to do is create a brand, but unfortunately, not all of them stick with it. The Xerox logo, that we have all come to know and love, over the last 40 years is being replaced. The replacement looks like they went “web 2.0″ and as such, I am very unimpressed. Why is everyone in technology trying to use orbs as their logo, albeit with different things on the orbs, they are still all orbs. Xerox, you’ve done something dumb. I hope you realize that, and come to your senses. While your “old” logo looked its age, it was easily recognizable, and no Read more »
How Big is Your LCD Dream?
So I am slowly shopping around for a second LCD for my computer. Originally, when I got my 19″ LCD a while back, I used my 17″ CRT monitor as my second monitor, but that thing just gave me horrible head aches, so eventually, I ditched it, but since then, I have been feeling very limited with just one monitor. I watch as the prices on 24″ widescreen LCD’s come down to what could be considered a more reasonable price, and 22″ LCD’s price themselves around what my 19″ one was selling half a year ago, and you realize that huge screen real estate is not as expensive as it Read more »
Personal Disaster Recovery: Backup, Don’t Archive!
One thing that I know many people forget is to backup their work, and it really makes me frustrated. Even us geeks sometimes forget, and that is just unthinkable. Geeks are Sexy has a great post up about backing up your computer. Aside from malware/spyware and viruses, the biggest trouble with most home computers can probably be attributed to the build-up of user data over time. You’ve seen it happen over and over again: digital pictures, videos, documents, spreadsheets, and more fill up the drive and eventually adversely affect the performance of the computer. The problem is that many do not backup their data correctly… When I worked at a Read more »
OpenOffice Online
So it looks like OpenOffice, the popular Microsoft Office replacement is working on a web version, much like Google Documents. Ars Technica had a chance to give it a run through and found it to be decent, but not perfect. Here is a snippet from their article: With this beta offering of a desktop suite, however, it’s clear that Ulteo’s initial public milestone was simply to get OpenOffice.org working in a web browser. Users seeking the collaborative or document-sharing features of competitors like Google Docs or even Microsoft’s Office Live Workspace should keep on walking. While Online OpenOffice.org offers 1GB of online storage space for all your documents, nary a Read more »

Xbox 360 DivX/XviD: Nearly Perfect
So Gizmodo has taken an in depth look at the way the Xbox 360 handles DivX and XviD files since the fall update adding the ability to the console. I am very happy to see Microsoft continuing to expand the usefulness of the Xbox 360, and continue to find myself with more and more temptation to pick up the 120GB hard drive, since my measly 20GB one is always full. According to Gizmodo, the way the Xbox 360 handles these new file types is pretty darn good, and after some helpful advice from people commenting, the reviewer realized it was better than he thought. There were still some issues though, Read more »
Scoble to Leave PodTech
Once attached at the hip to Microsoft, Robert Scoble is now leaving the video production start up, PodTech, that he really helped bring into the light. Currently, he is considering either going to Fast Company to run Fast Company TV, or to some other undisclosed offer. It is sad to see such an enterprising company lose such a big brand, but Scoble must do what is best for him. Here is a bit from his blog post on the matter: I told everyone that it was true that I had decided to leave PodTech, but that Fast Company hasn’t been signed yet and that I’m still considering two options, one Read more »
