With AOL Phoenix Mail and Facebook’s announced communications platform set to possible revolutionise email, the guys over at The Blog Herald and Infographiclabs sat down and analysed the history and functionality of email, wall while having a look at some interesting daily numbers and spam stats. The result was another awesome infographic.

Can you remember life without online video? I know I struggle. Our colleagues over at The Blog Herald had a look at the history of online video in the alst 5 years and created an awesome infographic for TechSmith, the creators of the awesome Camtasia screencasting software.

Nevertheless many movies rake in billions, especially if directed by James Cameron or produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. There’s no doubt that these guys will ever need a credit loan because it seems that they were born in a basket called ‘Success’. They didn’t need to sell any scripts to be able to produce their first full length feature like Tarantino, they just create hit after hit. We looked at the most popular movies in history and did some number crunching. The Infographiclabs then visualised all data for you.

Anyone who has read ForeverGeek for a while knows that we are big fans of periodic tables. Don’t believe me? We even have a periodic table tag. Although not every author in the history of FG totally element focused was and would gladly leave out the creation of a new element from a geek-gasmic list, generally we do love our elements and periodic tables. So time for a roundup of periodic tables. While there are lots of periodic tables out there, we did stick to tables which at least do look like a genuine periodic table and not one of the many knock offs with only few elements.

Periodic Coffee Table of Elements

Of course there is no way we can leave THE ultimate periodic table of elements out of this entry: the by Theodore Gray handcrafted wooden periodic coffee table of elements. Typography and chemistry in one, the absolute winner and we dare to say it, the best periodic table of elements ever. I will gladly design my house around this table and commit burglary!

A close second one will be the periodic cupcakes. Of course it is very difficult to come anywhere close to Theodore’s coffee table, but these are genuinely periodic cupcakes and we love cupcakes.

Periodic Table of Meat

While the only correct periodic table of meat probably has to consist of 103 bacon elements, this table does recognise that bacon the meat of life is and thus element #1, also a noble meat. This inevitably bring us to H₂B: Bacon double cheeseburger.
Not everything listed is ‘meat’ but often also rather a ‘dish’, such as Hot Dogs but we are not going to complain about that are we?

Periodic Table of Awesoments

This could possibly have been the most challenging periodic table of all to compose because how can you define what awesomeness is. We use our Dept. of Awesomeness for that here at FG HQ but Dapperstache certainly did a good job at it. Bacon and Ninja for the first two elements consists of lots of win and the rest of the table certainly does not disappoint either.

Periodic Table of Typefaces

Every geek has a little design gene in them and loves nice typography. Don’t we all prefer Hel-frakkin’-vetica over Arial?
So if typography is your thing, the periodic table of typefaces belongs against your wall.

Another awesome periodic table for design geeks is Josh Duck’s periodic table of HTML5 elements.

Another very ‘www’ periodic table is Davebug’s Periodic Table of Elements by Google Images. This is a classic period table but instead of using symbols (abbrevuiations) for this table, Davebug used Google Images search.

Although sadly made in 1987 and thus rather outdated already, Roadside Jesus’ Period Table of Rockin’ is an absolute must for periodic table geeks and very detailed.

It is a public secret that I am a big fan of Banksy’s street art and when I saw the title of a tweet combining both Banksy and The Simpsons, I don’t know anymore whether I was amused, excited or just thinking WTF. For the first time ever the crew around Matt Groenig have allowed a ‘third party’ artist to write the storyboard for and direct intro of the popular springfield animation series and the results are rather interesting. Enjoy the video before the Youtube overlords pull it. ;)

If another artist is allowed to direct the intro in the future, I would love to see this honour to go to David Fincher, in my opinion not only a great director but also one of the best movie title sequence artists.

Some months ago some guru decided it was time to bombard the world with a new piece of hardware and make our bank account a little lighter. Much lighter. We had to do it, especially Mactards fanboys that we be… but I didn’t.
I was tempted and almost raving about the new device and without having held it in my hands I wrote a glorified review 7 Reasons Why Bloggers Should Buy An iPad.

But I didn’t.

Now times have changed and I’m ready to splurge the cash. Not because I want another dust catcher on my coffee table or a portable device which does not fit in any pair of khakis I own, but because I *need one*.
Yes, you read that right, I am among the few ones who do *need* an iPad. Not because of any impairment or because I have this burning desire to splash money but because we are soon going to release an iPad application for an upcoming project and might even plan a Splashpress Media application. The doubts persist though and I fail to decide and order my share of magicness.

I Need Your Help

So for once I am going to rely on the voice of the masses and ask you to convince me to send more money to Stevo. First though there’s some things you might want to know, mainly about how I use mobility.

I often am on the road and almost always carry my 13″ MacBook with me. It’s the perfect size for me and justifies to carry a daypack with me. Also when at home, I am always online and no matter where, my MB seems to accompany like a little me dog.
The main thing what sold me on my MacBook was its size and the high quality screen. It’s just perfect

Now, I can see advantages in having an iPad. Of course there are the apps we want to release and testing an app without touch does not bring the complete experience. There’s the lighter device, and probably most brilliant remote control for the Mac Mini HTPC. Lastly there’s the option to use the iPad as a second ‘computer’ and as PIM next to the MacBook. To waste time on social networks and Twitter but mainly to check email and the calendar/schedule.

I’m not sure though this justifies the rather heavy expense of €600, which is what the 16GB iPad costs in my neck of the woods. But that would of course not be the only expense: there’s the almost obligatory case, the the best iPad case, probably a keyboard and dock and last but not least the cost to get a US IP so I can watch Hulu Plus on the ‘Pad, albeit not in Web 720p quality. Luckily there’s thousands of quality free iPad apps available.

Please help me and let me know how you would decide: pro or contra the iPad. iPad or a rocking amplifier with subwoofer glueing me to the wall when watching Iron Man 2?

Most geeks love playing with language. Sadly too often too little is known about languages or the language families. While not everyone ought to be a polyglot, knowing more than one language is always a bonus. Having an insight in languages and their families can make learning another language easier even.

Some days ago I already posted a teaser about the new design. We had finally decided to change and brought the awesomely talented Ia Lucero in to redesign our site. The brief was not simple but we are proud of the result:

• Keep the legacy of the brand
• Make things simpler, get rid of all the different categories
• Let the content breathe more
• Make it better looking

We wanted the content to be highlighted more, all while having a spiffy and wide design. If you haven’t already, you should really check out the ForeverGeek Homepage. Remember this? Have a good look at it because it ain’t anymore!

We will release the former ForeverGeek design as a free WordPress theme over the next weeks, over at BusinessLogs.

Like with every redesign, there still are some minor tweaks needed left and right but we are happy with the results. We love the homepage and also the tag cloud and media wall in the footer. Especially how some of our preferred tags such as The Dept. of Awesomeness and the Dept. of Want It! are highlighted now.

The main problem with LV though is when men start using it as a ‘man bag’. Big was my surprise around 4 minutes ago when I finally saw a smart use of Louis Vuitton fabric: create bugs in LV design!.

Yes, bugs. Sculptures actually but what’s in a name?

Kyoto-based artist Mitsuhiro Okamoto set out and created 9 different sculptures, all made from fake counterfeit items. Five of those were made with Louis Vuitton products and for the other four Chanel, Gucci, Coach and Fender imitations bags were used.

The sculpture weres on show at the Kobe Fashion Museum but were removed after only some weeks as the multi-national company swimming in money coming from their highly over rated and even more over priced bags decided that they an endorsement of the illegal trade in counterfeit goods mean and thus damage the image of the company and its luxury products. The museum complied and removed the art works.

The museum removed the items to avoid a legal dispute stating that they weren’t sure whether the works of art represented a trade mark infringement. I’ll just throw my hat in here, and it’s no Burberry’s hat, but it is clear that Louis Vuitton wrong is in this case and their statement and attitude damage their luxury image more than anything else.

The only drama the BBC will boast about are Merlin and Doctor Who which are fine, but they’re children’s programmes.

Here at FG HQ we love to ignore the Doctor (hey stop digging my iPlayer logs!) just because although the Dr. is cool, it’s not the same as toasters and although Brits might think that Amy Pond the best thing since Marmite is, we disagree and still drool over Caprica Six.

In true FG fashion, DJ Zantho took true childhood heroes and converted them with Ableton to amazing ’8-Bit artwork’. Among the awesome works: Donkey Kong, Mario, Darth Vader, Mega Man, Zero and many more.

It may be really hard to believe but this appears to be really done in sound editing software. Mac boys, run to GarageBand and now make something similar, while respecting the Apple UI Guidelines!

I gutted my Millennium Falcon model from 1979 and installed the guts from my Powerbook G4. Two new “C” batteries and it’s ready to fly. The two cords are the power cord and ethernet cable.

We have to admit that the Millennium Falcon server a really close call for the best thing since sliced bread is, but the Millennium Falcon bed comes with a girl, right?

Don’t get me wrong, I do like Tarantino but Rodriguez is the more mature director of both. Luckily they worked together regularly, even if on under-rated movies such as Four Rooms or over-hyped movies such as the Grindhouse duo.

This time the honour is Tarantino’s to create a fake trailer for Rodriguez’ upcoming feature film ‘Machete’ but the trailer we are really interested in here at FG is the LEGO version by Youtuber gigerbrick.
