CNET Launches Free Image Hosting

CNET has launched AllYouCanUpload, a free image hosting site that doesn’t require registration. Sites like PhotoBukcet have been wildly popular for those that want to include images in comments on sites that get lots of traffic (like Fark.com), but don’t want that traffic to be the downfall of their server. Allyoucanupload.com is an online space where you can store (host) images to embed in pages elsewhere on the Internet. Use allyoucanupload.com to add images to your other online spaces, such as online auctions (eBay), blogs (Blogger, TypePad), message boards, online classifieds, and social networking sites (Xanga, MySpace). You upload, we host, you post. It’s that simple. If you want to Read more »

SanDisk Says iDon't

This has got to be one of the lamest attempts at viral marketing I have ever seen. SanDisk, in an attempt to sway potential buyers away from the wildly successful iPod and convince them to use their players, has decided that they way to do that is by comparing them to sheep. Attention all free thinkers, contrarians, and malcontents. The time has come to rise up against the iTatorship. To resist the monotony of white earbuds and reject the oppressive forces of cultural conformity. Read more »

SlideShowPro Director

If you are a web designer/developer, chances are you have been asked to build photo slideshows. One of the easiest way to create those slideshows using Flash has been to use Todd Dominey’s SlideShowPro. The downside to using SlideShowPro has been having to edit the XML files by hand, which tell the SSP component what order the images are in, where to find them, etc. Todd has just released SlideShowPro Director, a $20 application that lets you manage photos for your slideshow, as well as automatically output the XML files needed for SlideShowPro. SlideShowPro Director is the easiest way to import, organize, edit and manage your images for SlideShowPro. Simply Read more »

No Audio in Flash 8 Video on MacBookPro

I was browsing YouTube last night and wanted to watch the clip of Steve Jobs’ interview on CNBC about the 5th Avenue Apple Store. When I got to the clip, the video was working fine, but I couldn’t hear anything. In fact, I couldn’t hear audio on ANY Flash 8 Video clip. I guess I had just not watched any since switching over to my new MacBookPro. After searching the discussions at Apple Support, I finally had the solution. Go to Applications > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup. Look for the Properties For: drop-down and select Built-in Output. Here is a screenshot of the panel. Now look under the Audio Read more »

Microsoft has released a beta application that will scan your machine and tell you what devices and/or drivers need to be updated in order to run the various versions of Windows Vista that will be available. You download the app, select what you would like to do with Vista from a pre-set list of options (record TV, manage photos, work remotely, etc) and then it starts scanning your system, first for devices and then for drivers. At work, I am running a Dell Dimension 8400 with a 3.4Ghz P4, 2GB of RAM, and a 128MB ATI Radeon X300SE (PCI-Express). The only thing I would have to upgrade my machine for Read more »

Flaky MacBooks?

Less than a week after their introduction, there are already some reports cropping up that the “protective coating” on the black MacBook is easily flaking off after relatively light use. Some users report that the matte black coating on their new MacBook is rather fragile and has begun peeling and flaking off leaving the undercoat exposed. We are not sure yet if the problem is widespread or only occurring on a limited number of black MacBooks but we are looking in to it. Some users may remember that Apple had a similar problem with the black iPod nano being scratch prone. Apple addressed that problem by adding a small lip Read more »
