White 40 Gb PS3 Revealed!

White 40 Gb PS3 Revealed!

We’ve heard about the 40 gb PS3 hitting Japan, but until today, we didn’t know it was white…or that it was coming with a DualShock3 controller. The new PS3 is set for a Nov. 11th launch – but it’s coming without a memory card slot and SACD reading function…so no backwards compatibility. Also it’s coming with 2 USB ports instead of 4 like previousl PS3 models. It will cost about $341. Crunchgear believes that we’ll be seeing this same PS3 in the US on Nov. 2nd for $399. Read more »

BWU-200S Blu-Ray Burner hits 4x

4x certainly isn’t lighting fast, but it’s getting better. The new BWU-200S can burn a 50 gb Blu-Ray disk in about 45 minutes. It can also burn to BD-RE at 2x, DVD±R at 16x, dual-layer DVD±R at 8x, CD-R at 40x and CD-RW at 24x. The unit also features a SATA interface and comes with the “CyberLink BD Solution” – which is, of course, software to handle the capture, encoding, and recording of all your Blu-Ray content. via Engadget Read more »

Scientists Invent "Space Currency"

Scientists Invent "Space Currency"

Yeah…I’m not making that up. This BBC article points us toward foreign exchange company Travelex, who is really thinking ahead. They hired a group of scientists from the National Space Centre and the University of Leicester to create “space money”. Why? Well…let’s let them explain it. “None of the existing payment systems we use on earth – like cash, credit or debit cards – could be used in space,” said Professor George Fraser from the University of Leicester. “Anything with sharp edges, like coins, would be a risk to astronauts while the chips and magnetic strips used in our cards on Earth would be damaged beyond repair by cosmic radiation,” Read more »

Xbox 360 Holiday Bundles Announced

Xbox 360 Holiday Bundles Announced

Microsoft announced the holiday bundle editions of the Xbox 360 today. Starting at the end of October, the Xbox 360 Premium and Elite systems will come bundled with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance for no additional cost. Those are two very odd choices to me, but I did really enjoy Ultimate Alliance last year…so, will this help sell Xbox 360s? Probably so…it certainly adds some value to those $350 and $450 price tags. This holiday is going to be very interesting when it comes to the console wars. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Read more »

YouTube Find: Futurama – Bender's Big Score DVD Trailer

Check out the trailer below. Read more »

iRobot unleashes new Droids: ConnectR and Looj

Let’s get the really boring on out of the way first… The Looj is designed to clean out your gutters. You put it in your gutters, it cleans them out, tank style, spitting the debris over the side…then it comes back to you. It’s $99 – and if you have gutters…you probably want one…if you don’t…you couldn’t care less. The other robot, however, is the ConnectR…and it’s something else entirely. From the Engadget article: You can “virtually visit” friends and family by controlling the WiFi-connected bot remotely, with live video, audio, controls and sensor data. The camera tilts and zooms, and has a zoom mode high resolution enough for reading Read more »

George Takei gets Asteroid named after him

George Takei gets Asteroid named after him

George Takei will now live forever. At least, that’s what some people will say since he now has a heavenly body named after him. The former helmsman of the USS Enterprise has had asteroid 1994 GT9, a large rock located somewhere between Mars and Jupiter renamed in his honor as 7307 Takei. The asteroid was originally discovered in 1994 by Japanese scientists. The name change has been approved by International Astronomical Union’s Committee On Small Body Nomenclature. Read more »
