Downloadable content just got a lot more interesting. Amazon announced today, hot on the heals of Wal-Mart’s official jump into the downloadable video world, that they have partnered with Tivo to bring Amazon Unbox content to a Tivo near you.
Suddenly Amazon’s crappy Unbox service doesn’t seem so crappy.

A limited number of Tivo’s will be able to test the service today, with a full roll out coming soon.

With all the marketing hype behind Vista…pretty soon your parents or grand parents are going to ask you “Should I get the Veesta Windows?” If they’re kinda tech savy, and or the really, really need some Windows only applications then you probably want to tell them “yes” or “just wait until you buy a new computer”…but if they’re not tech savy, and they probably aren’t going to be buying a new computer anytime soon (and let’s face it…the computer they are on is 4 or 5 years old) then there is a much smart, safter, and all around better OS to tell them to use.
Linux.
In the early days of Linux you really needed to be tech savy to get into the OS…but that has changed, and now Linux is the best solution for the complete computer novice…why? I’m glad you asked….

Yet another member of the Iron Man cast has been announced. This time it’s Jeff Bridges. Mr. Bridges has been cast in an unnamed role that is currently shrouded in secrecy. Jeff Bridges joins Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, Gwenyth Paltrow as Pepper Potts and Terrence Howard as Rhodes to complete the ensemble cast for Marvel’s first Independently produced film.
Bridges character is stated to have had long time connections to Star Industries, and to be a close friend of Tony Stark in the film.
Aint It Cool News speculates that he might actually being playing the role of Mandarin…but i seriously doubt that, and don’t agree with their assessment that that would be “cool” casting.
Frankly, I think casting anybody but Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat) would be a travesty. Mandarin was the role Tagawa was BORN to play…who’s with me?
Isn’t it great when a show that never should have been canceled in the first place, gets UNcanceled? It rarely happens (Why not you Firefly…why not you??), but when it does, the sweet taste of justice drips from the mouths of everyone involved…
That was an odd way of putting that wasn’t it?
Anywho…
Matt Groening sat down with TV Squad recently and talked about the return of Futurama to Comedy Central in 2008…

Check out this Zelda Mod for Halo CE – (you might want to skip to the first minute mark, though…it’s a slow opener)

Please forgive the shameless self-promotion, but I have just started an Apple podcast at Forever Geek’s sister blog, Apple Gazette.
In this first episode of Apple Gazette Weekly I discuss how you can be involved in the podcastâŠVerizonâs rejection of the iPhoneâŠnew Apple products released (and on the way), and a whole lot moreâŠ
You can find it in iTunes right here. Or you can subscribe to it via RSS here. OR you you can directly download it here.
I’ve been thinking about doing a Forever Geek podcast too…so if you think that’s something you might be interested in listening to, please comment on this post and let me know!
Godzilla fans REJOICE! The big green machine is heading to the Nintendo Wii in a BIG way with GODZILLA: UNLEASHED. IGN has an interview with the team behind the project, and it looks very, very promising.
Godzilla: Unleashed will support 4 player simultanious action, Wii Connect 24 support, and an entirely new control scheme that will allow for multiple attacks at the same time using the Wiimote. This is not a port of a previous Godzilla game, but an entirely new outing for the G-Man. No word yet on the release date.

Seriously…you just can’t make this kind of stuff up. If you’re in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Korea, Microsoft wants to know “what’s wrong with u”, because you guys don’t seem to be into the Xbox 360. Obviously, there must be something wrong with you…not them…
Check out What’s Wrong with U.com for more info.
This is a…unique…marketing choice to say the least, and I’ll be interested to see how it is recieved.

Will he, or won’t he? The Hollywood Reporter posted a report this morning that included the following:
“Over at Paramount Pictures, for example, there is now a question whether J.J. Abrams will direct “Star Trek XI.” The studio insists that the “Lost” creator was never officially attached to direct the film, only to produce it. However, in July, upon announcing Abrams’ film production pact with Paramount, then-studio president Gail Berman said Abrams was on board to direct the next installment in the sci-fi franchise and that it would be his first project under the new feature deal.”
They went on to state that, while Paramount hopes that Abrams will direct the next installment of the aging franchise, he is expected to make his decision this week.
There have been some pretty big changes to two currently in-developement DC Comics movie projects this past week.
The first big story surrounds the Wonder Woman adaption that was helmed by Buffy the Vampire Creator Joss Whedon.
Whedon has left the production after he and the studio could not agree on a direction for the film. The announcement was made on his official website, where he had the following to say: “I had a take on the film that, well, nobody liked,” Whedon wrote. “Hey, not that complicated. Let me stress first that everybody at the studio and Silver Pictures were cool and professional. We just saw different movies, and at the price range this kind of movie hangs in, that’s never gonna work. Non-sympatico. It happens all the time. I don’t think any of us expected it to this time, but it did. Everybody knows how long I was taking, what a struggle that script was, and though I felt good about what I was coming up with, it was never gonna be a simple slam-dunk. I like to think it rolled around the rim a little bit, but others may have differing views.”
On the same day (Feb. 2nd in case you were wondering) David Goyer announced that he had left The Flash for the same reason. He has been replaced by Shawn Levy. Goyer had this to say on his My Space page, where he made the announcement. “For the record, the script did involve both Barry and Wally as the Flash,” Goyer wrote. “I wanted to showcase the legacy aspect of the heroâas that was something that hadn’t been explored yet in film. Like Batman Begins, the script drew on some seminal comic-book runs (Mike Baron, Mark Waid, Geoff Johns).”
No word yet on the new directions these project will take. Warner Bros. purchased a Wonder Woman spec script that was set in World War 2 this week as well, but most industry experts agree that this was a “kill script” purchase to ensure no legal problems with similarities between this script and the final film. It is not expected to be used.
Famous Computer Scientist James Gray has gone missing. After a large scale search the Coast Guard gave up last Thursday. Thankfully, Amazon has stepped in…they arranged for a satellite sweep of the area and stored the images on their S3 storage service. Now you can help find him.
Amazon has created a task on their Mechanical Turk service to allow volunteers to scan the images to look for the boat.
It’s going to be a difficult task, and who knows if we’ll find anything useful, but if you have time, you have the chance to help save a man’s life from the comfort of your own home…that’s probably the coolest thing the Internet has ever been able to do.

You read that right…Ghostbusters 3 has been confirmed by Dan Akryod…and everyone is aboard. The catch? It’s all CG.
Frankly, this is great news to me. I love the Ghostbusters as a concept, and as a franchise, and CG is a perfect way to go, in my opinion. Not only can we keep the same cast without having to worry about age being a factor, but they can do so much more in CG (and so much cheaper than live action) than they were able to in the originals.
Now, if they’ll just stick by a PG to PG-13 rating, and do this right…it could be AWESOME!
You can listen to the interview here.
With the St. Valentine’s Day Holiday creeping up, you’re probably trying to come up with something cool to get your geek girl/guy. Geeks are hard to buy for (we know, we’re geeks) so that task can be daunting.
Well…we decided to make it a little easier for you. We’ve compiled a list of 5 great geek gifts for this Valentine’s day. If you’re looking for something for a geek you’re sure to find something you’ll like…if you are a geek with a non-geeky signifigent other then forward them this list and let them know what you want!
When geeks get bored…they build OSes…for fun…
There is no official word from the coder if he is going to release the OS for download. On a recent message board post he stated that he was undecided due in large part to the fact that he was “incredibly lazy”.
Viacom and YouTube have failed to reach an agreement over videos that appear on the popular video charing site, and as a result, Viacom has demanded that YouTube remove 100,000 videos from its site.
Videos include clips and segments from shows on the MTV and BET Networks.
BTW – for those of you keep score, the average IQ of YouTube video content just went up 35 points :)
PVP is one of the most successful webcomics in existence, and one that I’ve enjoyed for years. On Thursday PVP The Animated Series debuted on the official PVP site. At first, I was really unsure as to how good this short animated series was going to be…but after watching the first episode, I have to say…this is something every single one of you should check out.
Why?
Well…there’s the obvious – it’s funny – reason, but more importantly, PVP:TAS is a professionally produced animated series for the web. Kurtz and Co. have produced an animated series that features BETTER quality animation than most of the shows running on Adult Swim.
Video Preview and more after the break…
