I am not someone who condones piracy, but this is very much a good thing for consumers. Basically, there was a recent decision by the FCC to force all manufacturers of Televisions (and anything capable of receiving a TV signal.. that’s right computers too…) to install technology capable of interpreting a “broadcast flag” that would signify a program was not to be allowed to be recorded. This tidbit is actually about a week old and may or may not be really happening (There is some speculation on the Broadband Reports Forums), but I thought it was worth mentioning anyway. Basically, Vonage is claiming that some ISP(s), who currently remain nameless, are blocking their service from their networks in order to offer a competing service of their own. Even the idea of this has a lot of people frustrated and concerned, and rightfully so.
