Now here’s one of the better action cartoons to come out of the 90′s, and a personal favorite of mine from the days before Toonami became exclusively a showcase for the latest anime. You can read my full run-down of the Real Adventures of Jonny Quest Right Here. The original Jonny Quest animated series produced by Hanna Barbara was a ground-breaking piece of animation in America. It signified a change in action cartoons on television; permitting them to be longer, darker and more sophisticated. There was continuity among episodes, a strong cast of characters, half hour-long plots and, most memorably, lots of people dying rather violently (typically off-screen, of course). Read more »

Tony Jay passes away
Prominent voice-actor, Tony Jay, has passed away at age 75. He was recognized for his deep, sophisticated voice and excellent sense of humor. Some of his numerous roles include Megabyte from Reboot, Dr. Lipschitz from Rugrats, Shere Khan from the Jungle Book and Talespin, Frolo from Disney’s the Hunchback of Notre Dame, Lord Dregg from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Galactus from the Fantastic Four among many other roles. Ace Ventura 3: Make it Stop
Well, it looks like Hollywood has had another brainstorm of genius-proportions, as Ace Ventura 3 is now in the works. But don’t get too excited, Ventura fans, because Jim Carrey won’t be having anything to do with this one. Instead, the early scripts will star Ace Ventura’s son as the irritating pet detective. Kinda reminds me of those awful Pink Panther movies they made after Peter Sellers quit. Ace Ventura 3 isn’t the first sequel to a popular Jim Carrey movie that won’t star Jim Carrey. Dumb & Dumberer, a prequel to Carrey’s Dumb & Dumber, was actually a box office success, costing $19,000,000 and earning $26,214,846 in US box Read more »
First Look: Optimus Prime (sorta)
Dreamworks has leaked two new teaser images of Optimus Prime in robot mode. Just an arm and (most of) the head, really. You can view both images Right Here. Interesting to see how the notorious flames from his vehicle mode are worked into his robot form. It’s giving me a “Megas XLR”-vibe. Read more »
Sonic the Hedgehog: Animation Retrospect
Been on a serious Sonic the Hedgehog kick, lately. So much so that I went back and watched some of every Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon and anime out there. You can read my retrospective overview of Sonic’s various animated incarnation’s Right Here. I donât know if itâs the 15th Anniversary or what, but Iâve been on a crazy Sonic the Hedgehog binge, lately. Aside from playing the video games like mad and pouring over any issue of the Archie comic I can get my hands on, Iâve been re-watching episodes of the various Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons from over the years. Some were awesome, some were better than others and Read more »

G4/TechTV vs. Jack Thompson
Anti-Violent Video Game activist, Jack Thompson, went on G4/TechTV’s Attack of the Show to defend his views that video game violence has been destroying America’s youths. Well, being a video game network, G4/TechTV didn’t let that slide. You can watch the video of the interview right here. Adam Sessler, host of X-Play, and Jack Thompson seem to have a lot of venom in their veins. It’s a fascinating interview, though very, very, very bitter. And, as expected, nothing is really resolved. Just a bunch of grown men yelling at each other. But that’s what makes these things so much fun to watch. Read more »
Ultimate Avengers 2: Review
The sequel to the original Ultimate Avengers film, based on Mark Millar’s ‘The Ultimates’ comic book series, has finally been released. The movie wasn’t terrible, just a little underwhelming. Better than the first installment, at any rate. You can read my full review of Ultimate Avengers 2 right here. The greatest set-back of the first installment of the Ultimate Avengers animated franchise was the lack of character development or depth of any kind. Like most team-based movies which have to introduce a large cast with limited time, most characters donât exceed their standard template or most noteworthy qualities. Ultimate Avengers 2, having already established the cast, gets to work fleshing Read more »

Kevin Smith's next film: Horror?
Bloody Disgusting is ahead of the curve as usual, with news from one of Kevin Smith’s most recent Q & A sessions (promoting Clerks II). Apparently, all those rumors that Kevin Smith plans on doing a horror film as his next project are, indeed, true. When asked if it would be a horror comedy, Smith said “no” and that he was tired of comedies. Plot, actors or anything more substantial than a “yes, I want to make a horror movie” are unknown at this point. All we know is that it’s going to be a year or two before we ever see it.
