Devil's Due announces new 'Child's Play' comic

Certain horror franchises have been doing rather well in the comic book market, these days. Army of Darkness, Friday the 13th, a Nightmare on Elm Street, Re-Animator and Darkman have all seen comic-based revivals. Well, next in line is Chucky, the killer doll from the Child’s Play franchise. Devil’s Due’s Josh Blaylock had this to say: “Devil’s Due’s infatuation with the horror genre isn’t a new one; the breakout cult success of Tim Seeley’s HACK/SLASH sparked more than enough interest to follow up with horror/occult themed LOST SQUAD, BLACK HARVEST, and NIGHTWOLF, as well as a brief revival of the dormant Chaos Comics ghouls. We’re excited as can be to Read more »

The Guyver (classic): Retrospective

The Guyver Extravaganza: Part 3 The third and final part in today’s Guyver Extravaganza, a retrospective of the classic Guyver OVA series. Check out the full review, Right Here! Like many Americans, and indeed, Westerners in general, my first introduction to the Guyver was through the live action films from the early 90’s. They eventually lead me to pick up the animated OVAs from which they were based (which, in turn, was based on the manga series). As a kid, I liked them mostly because it was so rare to see gore and cursing in a cartoon. Now, as an adult, I don’t quite get the same sort of juvenile Read more »

The Guyver live-action films: Reviewed

The Guyver Extravaganza: Part 2 The next installment in today’s 3-part Guyver Extravaganza: reviews of the ill-fated (but fun) live action Guyver movies. Click on the titles to read the full reviews. The Guyver One would think that The Guyver would have been a good movie, considering all its potential. You had Brian Yuzna in the director’s seat, special effects by Screaming Mad George, David Gale as the lead villain and a story based off one of the best comics and animated series to come out of Japan. All that going for it and the movie STILL failed. The Guyver 2: Dark Hero The original live action Guyver film, as Read more »

The Guyver (2005): First Impressions

The Guyver Extravaganza: Part 1 Today’s release of the Guyver (2005) vol. 1 has got me in a seriously nostalgic mood for some good old fashioned Guyver action. So this is part one in today’s 3-part series of Guyver reviews. Appropriately, it’s my review of the recent Guyver anime. Check out the full review, Right Here! While the first episode does mirror the first episode of the original series rather identically, the episodes afterward take a sharp turn into creativity. The original series moved very swiftly, often leaving behind numerous unanswered questions and WTF moments, but this new series paces things out at a much more reasonable rate. Previously two-dimensional Read more »

Spider-Man 3 Trailer: 100% More Venom!

Some of you might recognize this as the early production trailer shown at the San Diego Comicon. However, the footage for that trailer was shot at a distance and in poor quality. This is the version in crystal clear clarity. You’ll notice it’s virtually identical to the current trailer that was released on Thursday. The main difference between the two? This one has Venom. Justice League Unlimited Volume 1: DVD Review

Batman the Animated Series, created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, began in 1992. Eventually, it spawned its own extensive universe of DC comics-related animated fiction, including Superman the Animated Series, Batman Beyond, Static Shock and Justice League among other shows. Over ten year later, they created Justice League Unlimited, the pinnacle of a decade’s worth of dedication and imagination. “JLU” is a prime example of what superhero stories should be like, a perfect blend of humor, action, morality and character depth. The shear scope of JLU’s story telling is phenomenal, providing complex stories which have truly grown up with the audience. This series makes maximum use of the decade Read more »

Spider-Man: the Manga

In December 1997, Marvel Comics decided it was time to cash-in on the ever-increasing anime and manga fad. And it just so happens Marvel had genuine manga versions of both Spider-Man and the X-Men just lying around. Of the two mangas released at the time, I greatly preferred X-Men, but with it being nothing more than an adaptation of the Saban animated series, there’s really little to write about. So instead, I’ll take a crack at the most
”interesting” of the two books, Ryoichi Ikegami’s Spider-Man. First, a little history on the author. Ryoichi Ikegami is one of the more well-renowned manga artists, with his work spanning numerous decades. He is Read more »

New Spider-Man 3 trailer now online

The new 2.5 minute-long Spider-Man 3 trailer (which is different from both the teaser and the San Diego Comicon trailer) premiered on television last night. Did you miss it? Well, the good news is the trailer went online almost immediately afterward. Some interesting revelations in the trailer, particularly in regards to the Sandman and how he relates to Peter. Unfortunately, no shots of Venom (unlike in the San Diego Comicon trailer) but I’m sure we’ll see him sooner or later. Source: iFilm Read more »

Borat – Review

Chances are you’ve heard of this film, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”. They’ve only been playing the commercials every two minutes for the past month. And rightfully so, because if those commercials manage to get you to see this movie then you should be grateful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a film in the theater this politically incorrect or this damn funny. Absolutely worth the $8 bucks and then some. Check out my full review, Right Here! This film is gloriously racist. I’ve always wanted to use the term “gloriously racist” in a review and in the first sentence, no less! Well, Read more »
