It was announced earlier this week by Konami that famed Higurashi no Naku Koro ni creator Ryukishi07 will be working with Peach-Pit to create a new PSP mystery adventure game called “Okami Kakushi”. (source: ANN)

Other than what’s posted on ANN there doesn’t seem to be any other details on the game itself however, based on the title and description there’s bound to be some supernatural elements in the game (as with Ryukishi07’s previous works). The title is a play on words, where the first part “Okami” can either mean a god or a wolf. The two are usually distinguished by writing them in Japanese Kanji, but in this case the title was written in Hiragana which is sort of like the alphabet in that it only gives the pronounciation of the word. The second word in the title “Kakushi” can either mean “concealed” or “hidden”, making the rough English translation of the title “Hidden God/Wolf”.

So some of you are probably wondering who Ryukishi07 is and why this game is so special. To be breif, Ryukishi07 started out as an amateur game developer but quickly rose to fame with the success of his Higurashi no Naku Koro ni murder-mystery series and later with Umineko no Naku Koro ni. The Higurashi games have spawned several console games, a manga, a light novel, 2 full anime seasons, a live action movie, and an OVA, while Umineko is due to receive an anime adaptation late this year. Ryukishi07 is seen as a god-like figure (or at least somewhere way up there) among many fans of the murder-mystery genre. With these credentials, I’m sure a lot of people will be looking forward to Okami Kakushi once the release date is announced.

But if you’re a gamer who just couldn’t stand being apart from every stage/level your game has to offer, well this may be your cure. Strap the multi-shape Cobra Stand around your waste and you’d never be apart from your screen… “congratulations”. :)

Funny how it costs almost as much as a game… at US$23 right here, it’s an easy pop to building relationship with your PSPs… too bad your girlfriend might choose to stay away for a while, we’d understand her.

Aside from being multi-shape… it’s also multi-function. It doesn’t need to be wrapped around you all the time! You can use the accessory vacum hook stand for table-top viewing.

Now, let’s take a look at the specifications:

Sony announced that it will be releasing the next Sony PSP version dubbed as Sony PSP 3000 by mid-october, just in time for the big Thanksgiving and Christmas season sale. This announcement was made in Leipzig Germany during a video game convention.

Most of the improvements will be based on a more enjoyable/comfortable gaming experience, which includes brighter screens (bright to bring out and play under the sun), speedier performance (due to memory boosts) and a better battery life.

The Sony PSP 3000 has new feature additions, the most important would be a built-in microphone that will make the new PSP capable as a telephone.

“We believe that this will establish the PSP as a viable communication device,” said David Reeves, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

It will retail for US$294 in the US and Europe.
