I think that in most western countries that Saturday mornings was and is for cartoons. As a child of the 80′s a part of the nostalgia for me is remembering the cartoons I used to watch on TV. We had only two channels back then and it was in Spanish, but cartoons are cartoons. Today I still check TV scheduling to see if Boomerang is showing cartoons from the 80′s, I love watching them again especially when feeling nostalgic or having nothing to do. Topps, the company famous for their baseball cards, released in 1983 a series of awesome “Video Arcade Gum’. The boxes were shaped like video arcade games. If these were still available they would be on the shelves among the Pockies, Wispas and Pot Noodles in the indie coffeeshop I _also_ manage. In the 80s we have some great action figures…and sometimes they had great cartoons to go along with them. Transformers, He-Man, G.I. Joe, Voltron and Thundercats come to mind as some of the best, or most memorable at least, of the 80s action cartoons. Then there were the rest…some featured celebrities, some were thinly veiled knock offs of other successful shows…others were just plain crap.
