Step back, contenders. I think we have found the world’s biggest Arnold Schwarzenegger fans. This trilogy of short animated films, inspired by the Governator himself, were hand-drawn with highlighters used for color.

Created by collaborative artists Jimmy Thompson and Harry McGowan, who are known under the company name Brainbow, The Schwarzenegger Trilogy is comprised of 1600 individual hand-drawn frames. I have no idea how many man-hours that would require, but I’m guessing more than a few.

The first is called “5 4 3 2…”, and features a collection of famous movie explosions. Can you name them all? I have to admit, I only recognized a few. The second animation, probably the best of the bunch, is called “Galleria.” It’s a recreation of that awesome scene from Terminator 2 where young John Connor meets both the T-1000 and the Arnold Terminator for the first time. (Man, James Cameron was on fire with that movie.) Lastly is “come on… get down,” which the artists describe as an “original gangsta rap” song with clips of Arnold used as the lyrics.

Brewer Dogfish Head has a new gluten-free brew – Tweason’ale that is flavored with strawberry and honey. I am not much for flavored beer, but there is something about their marketing campaign – in which these moving images play a large role at this point, I assume – that makes me want to give the Tweason’ale a try.

The guys behind the animated images are Jamie Beck and Kevin Burg, who got in touch with the brewer to pitch a collaboration. The result is perhaps one-of-a-kind documentation of how beer – Tweason’ale in particular – is made. From the selection of the fruits to the serving of the drink – it sure made me thirsty! Take a look for yourself.

The next two images show how the strawberries are pressed, with the second image teasing the senses with that rich juice. Then again, at some point, I was reminded of bloodsucking vampires. :S

And that, folks, is how Tweason’ale is made.

As the whole world knows, Pixar is the holy grail of animated film. They can do no wrong. Every film they’ve made has been a #1 hit, and an instant classic.

But because they have such a reputation for excellence, we never hear about their failures. But as every genius will tell you, brilliance is achieved only on the backs of countless failures. One of Pixar’s failures is a movie called Newt.

Newt was announced a few years back as being one of Pixar’s many movies in the pipeline, but since then it’s been canceled for unknown reasons. (My theory: Pixar simply couldn’t make the story live up to its standards, and rather than release something subpar, they scrapped it.) The story was to involve the last two animals of their kind — a male and a female newt — who scientists needed to get to mate to save their species, but who can’t stand each other. Cue adorable romantic hijinks.

Anyhoo, Newt‘s been canceled for whatever reason, but Pixar today posted 30 concept images from the film. And as with all things Pixar, the concept art alone is gorgeous, sweet, and utterly amazing. Check out the full gallery on Pixar’s Facebook page.

Dr. Fritz Kahn (1888-1968) was a gynecologist in Berlin and a world-famous popular science writer who illustrated the form and function of the human body with spectacular, modern man-machine analogies. In the 1920s, his magnum opus, “Das Leben des Menschen” (The Life of Man) – a five-volume series – was renowned as a German accomplishment of global repute. In the 1930s, his books were banned and burned by the Nazis, then edited by Kahn’s publisher and reissued as plagiarisms with a superimposed anti-Semitic chapter.

Last year Henning M. Lederer a Master of Arts graduate has created an animation based on Dr. Khan’s poster of “Man as Industrial Palace”. Dr. Khan’s work has become very popular now a days amongst designers and historians.

This animation has awaken a fascination within me with Dr. Khan’s work. There is a book of him currently for sale, Fritz Kahn: Man Machine Maschine Mensch, which I wouldn’t mind having.

I have always had an interest in the World War 2 era in Europe, I excelled at history in high-school thanks to my fascination with that time. And reading about Dr. Khan made me realize I never really thought about the people and their works that where banned by the Nazis.

Henning M. Lederer’s idea of animating Dr. Khan’s work is fascinating and I wonder if there are more works like these that can be animated bringing them to attention again in these modern times. Khan’s and Lederer’s work wouldn’t miss stand in a school class to teach children.

I looked online if the poster is for sale but I can’t find one source that sells the original. The only way to get a poster is by buying the book.

Time to change that.

OK, we know it’s just a really cool bit of animation from Manuel Eder, but what a concept if it was ever invented. It would almost certainly never happen because not only does Apple love the touchscreen keyboard so much, but it’s already squeezed in a hell of a lot into the iPhone casing, and there’d be no room for this keyboard.

Of course, using the internal circuit board as a screen stand might also not be the best method.

Never mind — this is a great piece of work. For anyone who really wants a keyboard for their iPhone, let’s hope someone brings out an add on.

It would be great if the video was longer, with some more fancy moves, but this will do for now.

While it would be even more amazing if the ping pong ball was real, the fact is that there is some nifty animation going on.

If you’re in any doubt, look closely for the times when the ball loops the loop mid-table — unless you know anyone who can make a ball do that in real life, it’s animated.
