In a couple of weeks, a number of anime series will begin, and there are quite a few that seem like they would be worth taking a look into. Here are some of the more interesting titles that will be airing this fall: A Certain Magical Index 2 With only a few appearances in “A Certain Scientific Railgun” since the end of the first season, Touma and Index are finally back on screen full-time in the second season of “A Certain Magical Index”. Currently there don’t seem to be many details regarding the series other than that it’s a continuation from the first; however, the main characters from Railgun seem Read more »

5 Harem Anime That Are More Than Just T&A
Harems have become such an integral part of anime that now there is not a single season where there isn’t at least one new one. Most of these follow the same basic formula: average guy + special circumstances = 3 to 30 girls wanting to get in average guy’s pants. The special circumstances can range from something as simple as a childhood promises to something more extraordinary like obtaining special powers. In any case, the male lead always seems to suddenly gain the ability to make the opposite gender go crazy over him. After watching several harem anime, most people begin to lose interest since they recycle most of the Read more »
Black Rock Shooter OVA: A Work of Art or Random Doodles?
The Black Rock Shooter (BRS) OVA was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated anime released this year. Trailers for the anime have been out for quite a while, and the animation in them looked superb, but does the OVA match the quality shown in the trailers? In a way, yes, and in a way, no. The thing about the BRS anime is that it was split into two different parts: one in the real world, and one in a dark world where characters battle it out. If you go to Google and search for “black rock shooter ova review,” you’ll find plenty of blogs praising the animation quality. I was Read more »
Cat Shit One – Review
You may recall seeing a trailer last year for a new animated series called Cat Shit One. Well, the wait is over and the movie is finally out. The story takes place in a fictional place in a fictional world where cute little bunnies can speak, walk on two legs, and take on a village of terrorist camels (yes, the ones with the humps on their backs). The main characters are two bunnies called Packy and Botasky, who are both mercenaries working in the desert. Packy is the leader and the more confident one of the two. He is a well-rounded soldier that is skilled with rifles, pistols, knives, Read more »
Summer 2010 Anime: Girls, Battles, and the Supernatural
We’re now into the first week of July and that means a new season of anime is coming out. Ignoring sequels and OVAs, the season’s titles can be grouped into three categories. Girls Anime with lots of pretty girls, or one super-pretty girl, have been around for ages and there’s always at least a few in every season. With five titles (Amagami SS, Asobi ni Iku Yo, Ookami-san to Shichi-nin no Nakama-tachi, Seitokai Yakuindomo, and Shukufuku no Campanella) this summer is no exception. While this type of anime is usually described as romantic comedies or just romance, many people refer to them as bishoujo (literally, pretty girl) anime mainly because Read more »
In Anticipation Of The Last Airbender
I have this tendency to get hooked on one thing and just be 100% focused on that for as long as the urge is there. For the past few weeks, I have been absolutely fixated on the anime Avatar: The Last Airbender. I am ashamed to say that I never really did pay attention to it until my 9-year-old brother asked me to watch an episode with him. I fell for Aang and the rest of the gang – hook, line, and sinker. Since I am in the height of my Airbender fever, I cannot help but be excited about the movie version that M. Night Shyamalan has been working Read more »
Arakawa Under the Bridge – Insanity
Arakawa Under the Bridge is a new anime that began airing in April and focuses on the daily lives of a group of people living along a river under a bridge. To say that these people have interesting personalities would be a huge understatement. Out of all the anime that I’ve seen, Arakawa Under the Bridge has the most number of characters with some kind of serious mental problem, but that’s what makes it so enjoyable. Here are some of the characters that you’ll find in Arakawa Under the Bridge: Kou Ichinomiya Kou is the main character in the anime and is supposedly the only “sane” person around. After watching Read more »
Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai
You may have heard about this light novel/manga title getting an anime adaptation recently, but what is it about? The story revolves around Kyousuke Kousaka, an average 17 year old male high school student. Kyousuke has a mother who thinks he’s doing “personal business” whenever she walks in on him, a father who’s so strict that if you’re not at the dinner table at 7pm sharp you’ll be left to starve, and a younger sister that looks and acts like a fashion model and treats him like trash. One day Kyousuke finds an anime DVD box on the floor, and upon further inspection, finds an 18+ eroge (erotic game) inside. Read more »
10 Strange Anime You Would Never Have Thought of
Anyone that watches anime can tell you that it can be about anything, and when I say anything, I really mean it. Just to show you what I mean, I have compiled a list of 10 anime that I’m sure no one (or at least very few people) would have thought of unless they were drunk or high. Akikan Anyone who has been to Japan will know that there are vending machines everywhere, and they sell everything from the regular stuff like snacks and drinks, to weirder things like underwear and lobsters. One thing that they don’t sell, however, are girlfriends, but that’s where Akikan comes into the picture. This Read more »
Angel Beats: The Mixing Pot
Angel Beats is a mixed-media project involving the companies Key, Aniplex, Dengeki G’s Magazine, and PA Works. Each company has their own specialty that they’re bringing into the project: Key is doing the story-writing and music, G’s Magazine is handling the publications, while Aniplex and PA Works are doing the animation. Although it is a mixed-media project (meaning it will be released as an anime, manga, and light novel) the series is really focused around the anime, which is now into its fourth episode. While Key’s past works (such as Kanon, AIR, and Clannad) were a huge success due to their originality and unique characters, many have pointed out that Read more »
