If you’re in Los Angeles between now and the end of October, you should head over to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which is hosting the life work’s of visionary director Tim Burton, master of the gothic fairy tale. The art exhibition, which contains more than 700 pieces, has been shown in New York City, Melbourne, and Toronto, and now it’s landed in L.A. The debate over whether or not video games are art will probably last for years to come, but there can be no doubt that the conceptual art created for game design easily rivals that made for films. Regardless of what Roger Ebert thinks, video games are art. And now there’s proof. The Smithsonian American Art Museum is putting together an exhibition for 2012 called “The Art of Video Games.” And they wouldn’t display something that wasn’t art, right? I mean, it’s the Smithsonian, for crying out loud. They even have their own snooty cable TV network. If the Smithsonian says video games are art, then that’s good enough for me. Meet Leonard Nimoy the Photographer

I only knew Leonard Nimoy as pointy-eared Spock, who has been on a pedestal ever since I “met” him. That goes to show how much I know. Did you know that he has been a photographer (an accomplished one at that) for almost 40 years? Apparently, Nimoy started dabbling in photography when he was a mere 13 years old – and he did it the old fashioned way. He was (and is) totally serious about photography that he studied with Robert Heinecken at the University of California in Los Angeles.
