The Bees Sculpture

Dutch designer Tomáš Gabzdil Libertiny created a sculpture of Jesus as martyred Christ ricing form chaos. The sculpture is made of a laser sintered framework. The sculpture was then placed in a case made of glass sheets on top of two wooden beehives which grants worker bees access to the sculpture. About 40.000 worker bees then created a honeycomb skin over the sculpture and filled each cell with honey they produce. The internet never bores, every week I discover something amazing I wouldn’t know about otherwise. This week it is the artwork of Peter Callesen who creates paper figures from a single A4 sheet. He only uses a plain A4 white paper, something to cut it and glue. Some of the pieces are so incredible detailed you have to admire his talent and patience to create them. Notice the detail of the skeletons face end how meticulous the the ribs are done? And this is one of the more “simple” pieces. Read more »

Mario Bros. La Pietà sculpture

During the Renaissance, year 1499 to be exact, Michelangelo made a sculpture of Jesus lifeless body on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion. Michelangelo was 23 years old at that time. This masterpiece can be viewed in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City. The sculpture was named La Pietà, which means “pity”. Five-hundred and eleven years later Polish artist Kordian Lewandowski takes inspiration from La Pietà and merges Renaissance art with the modern day video game culture.
