Man, Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed machine is cranking like crazy. In anticipation of November 15th’s release of Assassin’s Creed Revelations, there is so much tie-in stuff happening, it would constitute an entire article to catalog them all. So hey, why not do just that?
Should you buy the Animus Edition or the Collectors’ Edition of Assassin’s Creed Revelations this November, you’re going to get something extra special in your goodie pack. Assassin’s Creed Embers is a new animated short film that’s been crafted by UbiWorkshop as a special “thank you” to the core fans. But what’s it about?
Comic-Con is happening right now, and in honor of the biggest annual geek event in the known universe, video game publishers have turned out in force, showing off some absolutely killer game trailers for hot upcoming titles like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Batman: Arkham City, Spider-Man: Edge of Time, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and I’m throwing in a leaked video from the Assassin’s Creed franchise that will set your mind spinning.
Oh, Ubisoft. You make such fantastic games. Why must you always have the cheesiest E3 media event? At least the last few years with Joel McHale hosting had some genuinely funny moments. But this year’s event, hosted by Aaron Priceman, aka Ubisoft’s “Caffiene Man,” was just painful to watch. It should be used in classrooms as a textbook example of “how to get an audience to turn on you.”
At least they showed some great games.
E3 starts NOW! You don’t have to be in L.A. to feel the excitement building for the gaming event of the year. There are going to be some incredible titles on display this year, but why wait for next week when you can enjoy some of the trailers for E3 right now? We’ve got a total of 12 E3 trailers for you, all compiled right here.
Ezio Auditore, the assassin introduced in Assassin’s Creed II and whose life story continued in last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, is about to come full circle in the fourth game in the series, Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.
And along with the announcement of this new game, Ubisoft’s master plan comes more sharply into focus.
There’s a new Assassin’s Creed game coming (and it’s a safe bet it’ll be out around Christmas of this year), and Ubisoft is teasing it on Facebook. Using a viral marketing campaign, users can choose to share news about this campaign with others, and once an unspecified target number of “shares” have been sent by users, Ubisoft will reveal the new game’s title.
Which is cool and all, but some crafty fans have already determined — by hunting through image directories on Ubisoft’s servers — that the new game is called Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. The game’s logo was found, which you can see at left. Sounds like a direct sequel to the storyline from Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood to me, since that game ended on such a huge cliffhanger.
There’s a teaser video being used in the viral campaign (that’s it above), which doesn’t really show anything, just some glitchy looks at the Animus. Every now and then in the video, Arabic words are shown that translate to the full name of Altair, the Middle Eastern protagonist in the very first Assassin’s Creed game. Will the plot have something to do with Altair? Will Revelations feature Altair as the main character?
We should find out soon. By Saturday afternoon, Ubisoft said it was at 19% of their social sharing goal.
