Now that both titles have are in the hands of happy gamers everywhere, which is your favorite? Does Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 remain champion of the genre it helped define? Call of Duty: Elite to Enhance Online Gaming
It’s not a game, and it’s not an MMO. Activision‘s new Call of Duty Elite is an “online service,” similar to Halo‘s Waypoint or Bungie.net, enhancing gamers’ multiplayer experience within the CoD franchise and offering expert tips and endless interactive features for the hardcore faithful. The idea behind Elite is that while players already spend a large part of their daily free time playing CoD online, this huge community has no networking tools to take full advantage of that experience. And players will be able to access CoDE from not only their game console but from the Web and mobile devices like their iPhone or Android phone. One of the Read more »
Modern Warfare 3 Trailer in High-Res Glory
Here it is. The trailer you’ve been waiting for. We’ve got the real deal gameplay footage, baby, and it’s in HD. You’ve never seen a Call of Duty on this big a scale. Seriously, if future games in the series get much bigger than this, it’ll have to be humans vs. aliens for the fate of the whole planet. Read more »
4 Teasers for Modern Warfare 3
After the big Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 data leak last week, Activision has responded with a measure of grace by turning the unexpected leak into an opportunity. Activision quickly confirmed the game’s existence, that it was being made by Infinity Ward (naturally), and even let loose a quartet of teaser trailers. The trailers don’t show much; they’re mostly audio voiceover files from the game, but hardcore fans will no doubt be excited by them. Each trailer is themed around a major country that you get to visit while playing the game. At around the 18-second mark of each teaser, there’s some wireframe-ish, neon green imagery from the playable Read more »
Details Leaked About Modern Warfare 3
It will come as a surprise to no one that Activision is planning a new Call of Duty game for release this November. Their publishing strategy over the last three or four years has been to release a new CoD title every year, thanks to the efforts of two different game studios (Infinity Ward and Treyarch). It probably won’t even surprise you to learn that this year’s game is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. But you will be surprised by the amount of details about the game that have been leaked and posted on Kotaku today. Kotaku’s report includes loads of character, weapon, and location renders, and full spoilers Read more »
Modern Warfare Live Action Movie Trailer
I’m picking my jaw up off the floor, and after watching this video, you will be too. If Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was ever made into a big-budget movie, it would certainly look exactly like this. And the real kicker: it’s 100% fan made. That’s hard to believe, to say the least, particularly when the quality is this high. We’re talking full special effects, solid actors, location shooting, cinematography, the works. It’s called “Find Makarov,” and it was made as a proof of concept by a Canadian studio calling itself “We Can Pretend.” The company is hoping to gage public response, in the hopes of making a series of Read more »
Black Ops Is Here: So What’s Next?
It’s not exactly breaking news that Call of Duty: Black Ops is already a mega-hit. Or that publisher Activision considers the CoD franchise the crowning jewel in its empire. So while CoD founding studio Infinity Ward is still recouping from all of that drama a while back where the company’s two founders were ousted by Activision (Black Ops comes from Treyarch, the studio behind all of the odd-numbered series entries), you can bet your butt that future iterations of the series are already well under way. But the obvious question becomes: where does Call of Duty go from here? The series has bounced between the World Wars of the early Read more »
So… what's Call of Duty: Black Ops?
Activision released a new trailer over the weekend, along with the initial announcement of, its latest game in the Call of Duty franchise. While the creators of Call of Duty, Infinity Ward, have been going through some serious inner turmoil lately, Activision’s secondary go-to studio for CoD games, Treyarch, has been working on this new entry. Treyarch is remembered as the studio behind the sequels Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 3, and the more recent Call of Duty: World at War. Effectively Call of Duty 7, the game’s actual title is Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Activision is remaining tight-lipped for the moment when it comes to Read more »
An Overanalysis of Modern Warfare 2 Dive Signals
There probably is no point to what I’m about to disclose, but I do want to point out that it bothered me just a little bit. If you’ve played Modern Warfare you will remember the opening scene where Roach’s squad of Navy Seals infiltrate an oil tanker being used as a SAM site in order to get to the Gulag. There were two seal teams making their way to the bottom of the rig. As the player, your DPV was released first, was brought into a U turn and caught up with the second team that was jettisoned afterward. It was at that particular moment that the pilot of the Read more »
