Regular readers will know what a fan I am of alternative clocks and watches. Any way of spicing up the chore of time-telling has to be a good thing. I didn’t come up with this idea when I created five concept watch designs, but I wish I had. Called OV’L, this wall clock displays both the date and time on a series of concentric circles. The inner four circles display year, month, day and weekday, while the outer circles display hours, minutes and seconds. I’m not entirely clear whether this clock really exists or not. Designer Stefan Vasilev is into graphic and logo design, so this could just be a Read more »

iBook G4 becomes wall clock
Hey, Greenpeace, stick this idea in your pipe and smoke it. The older Apple notebook computers may not have been the most environmentally friendly on the planet, but some resourceful types have created a functional timepiece from their defunct iBook G4 instead of just chucking it on the scrapheap. In fact, I wish I’d seen this before I had to get rid of my iBook. As you can see, the screen portion, with iconic Apple logo, is the clock face, while the mouse is the pendulum. Assembling clocks in this manner isn’t too difficult, so you could probably use any old laptop screen to achieve this. However, there’s something special Read more »
Aspiral: Literally a revolutionary clock
I saw the Apsiral clock on a programme about small businesses today and thought it would fit pretty well on Forever Geek. We’ve covered a range of cool watches here, but when you need something a lot bigger for your wall, but a normal clock won’t cut it, the Aspiral could be the timepiece for you. This kinetic energy clock is a bit of an investment, coming in at £350 ($500). 35cms (14 inches) in diameter and available in a range of colours, it represents three years work by Will Aspinall and Neil Lambeth. It’s very easy to tell the time (at least to the nearest fifteen minutes). A single Read more »
Create an activity clock on your refrigerator
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve needed to know what time it is when I go the refrigerator for an evening snack. Actually, no, scratch that, I haven’t, but I can see some use for the DIY fridge magnet clock here. Read more »
Nintendo History of Mario wall clock
Here’s a great wall clock decorated with twelve different images of Mario, charting his evolution from the extremely pixelated early years to his current higher definition state — after all, he’s been around for quite some time so he’s certainly seen some changes in hardware capabilities. Minimal black and white digital clock: want
Here’s a great little digital clock made up from OLEDs. Each figure can be attached to a wall, has its own power supply, is touch-sensitive and even has a light sensor built in to reverse the illumination based on the ambient light. It’s certainly minimal and would look great on the wall. Unfortunately it doesn’t have a manufacturer yet. Check out the pictures below. Read more »
Analog meets retro gaming with these Atari 2600 cartridge clocks
I love this marriage of concepts and materials — parts of an analog clock fused with original Atari 2600 video game cartridges. Sadly, if you’re after the game itself you’ll be disappointed to hear that the innards have been removed to make way for the clock mechanism. Read more »
Wake Up To A Blast
I have never been a morning person, and waking up before noon has always been a feat for me. While I have been waking up before half of the day is over for quite some time now, it does not mean that I like it or that I have gotten used to it. In fact, every now and then, I get these spells wherein no matter what I do, no matter how many alarms I set, I just CANNOT get out of bed. This has led me to think that I need to take some drastic measures. Enter the Danger Bomb Clock. Read more »
