You may think that Friday the 13th is an unlucky day, but I believe that whatever day it may be, luck comes to you if you help it a little. Besides, in some cultures, the number 13 is actually considered lucky. So if you are feeling a little luckless today, here’s a little pick-me-upper, courtesy of our friends from XVision.

We’re giving away 3 codes for vlock, which is being dubbed as the most beautiful video clock on the iPhone. If you are looking for more than what the default clock can give you, then vlock might just be what you have been looking for. It allows you to use any video as the background for your clock. Movies, music videos, podcasts, and album videos – no problem, they can all run in the background! Oh, and vlock works on the iPad as well.

If you have lots of videos that you like watching over and over again, you can simply create a playlist and set that to keep playing for as long you want. Alternatively, there are built-in videos which will mesmerize you. If you feel like upgrading, there are, naturally, in-app purchases for additional videos.

vlock costs $0.99 in the App Store, but you can get a purchase code for FREE if you join our contest!

How do you join?

Step 1: Copy & paste the following, and then Tweet it:

I want to win a promo code for vlock from @geekforever! Enter here: http://spla.us/AoLJYj #Winvlock #contests

Step 2: Leave us a Comment on this page (below) to let us know you Tweeted, and paste the link to your Tweet in your Comment. (Note that our Comments are moderated, so it may not show up immediately after you click the “Post Comment” button.)

3 winners will be selected at random from the Commenters on or around 8pm EST on Wednesday, January 18. Winners will be notified via Twitter, after which we’ll send you the promo code for vlock.

Good luck!

This week is good for LEGO lovers! Yesterday, we discovered The Cult of LEGO, a coffee book table that is due to be released next month. It is arguably the best present for any AFOL. Today, to end the week, we have a LEGO creation that will make it hard for LEGO enthusiasts not to drool and embarrass themselves: a LEGO clock.

This clock is called Time Twister. It was created by Hans Andersson, who is already known for his rather interesting inventions. Does the name Tilted Twister sound familiar? That was how Andersson made his name. The Tilted Twister is a robot (with LEGO components, yes!) that can solve the Rubik’s Cube. I am not sure if he is the first one to do this, but he pretty much cemented his geek cred with that creation. Since then, he has been busy with other related stuff (Sudoku Solver!) and his latest baby is this clock.

Andersson says that he has always been fascinated with time and clocks. (Admit it – you have always been as well!) With everything that he has been doing, I suppose it was just a matter of time till he actually made a clock, but he took things one step further and got together two LEGO Mindstorm bricks. Thanks to Bluetooth, he was able to make these two bricks communicate with one another. One brick functions as the master, while the other serves as the slave. The former brick is in charge of keeping track of the time and takes care of the minutes digits as well. (I can’t help but think: Time Lord!!!) The slave brick, on the other hand, is in charge of the hour digits and the second indicator.

Andersson created the digits (four in total) by layering black and white tiles. The trick was to make each tile layer rotate 360 degrees, at which point it hooks to the next layer. I don’t know how he did it, but by playing around with the top layer, each column of tiles can be made to display specific patterns, i.e., the time.

Awesome is all I can say. Watch the Time Twister in action.

Ok. Twitwee. Sounds like Gary Vaynerchuck’s whatever online social media projects or something like that but it’s lots better. Of course it’s all about Twitter but there are no celebrities involved, even no geek celebrities on twitter.

So what is it then? TV?

Wrong again. It’s a Twitter Cuckoo Clock.

The Twitwee Clock is a modified Cuckoo Clock that wirelessly connects to the internet and constantly checks for new status updates or search results received from the Twitter API. New Tweets are displayed on the built in display in near-realtime accompanied by the charming yet obtrusive call of a mechanical cuckoo poping out of the clock.

Visit the project page for more info: www.haroonbaig.com.

Now if all you think about the Twitwee clock is WTF!?, let me assure you that your thinking is way too shallow. Remember the Twittering washing machine? Indeed, now you even won’t have to check your ‘laundry’s done Twitter account’ anymore.

In technical language for n00bs it’s called ‘Optimising the workflow‘.

First up, we have the Beingz Mood Lamp. It looks like a mushroom in a weird sort of way and has LEDs to give you your own personal light show. I doubt that the lights will be bright enough to allow you to read at night but it does look cool. But you know what the really cool thing is? The mushroom top is touch sensitive. Touch it, stroke it, or tap it and you will get various flashes of light. The fun doesn’t end there – the lamp has an internal microphone that can pick up the music that you’re listening to, giving you a separate visualizer. And if you are like me, visualizers in action can calm you down like anything!

Next on the list is the Beingz Alarm Clock. It is also touch sensitive; in fact, it only shows you the time if you touch the surface or if the alarm goes off. Oh, and this baby can tal to the lamp! This is because the clock is more than a clock it is actually an FM radio as well. So when the clock plays music, the lamp picks the signal up and does its own thing.

Pretty cool huh? I had a laugh when I saw this, and probably this will be something a geek’s table need to animate it at a bit.
Sure it may probably give you an additional second or two to actually TELL time. First-glancers would just laugh at it at about 3:45 as it does appear to be cross-eyed. I hope it comes with other colors too but, sad to say, it’s just a boring white.

Nonetheless, if this isn’t you… you’d get gratitude if you send it off as a novelty gift. We just have to wait for its actual release and pricing… I’d say probably around US$30 or even lower.

This is a clock that’s called Timeless Garden and it was designed by Francesco Castiglione Morelli and Tommaso Ceschi. Have you had the chance to ask a patch of grass the time? :) Well, this one could. REALLY! I think this is genius work. No batteries nor are there any hidden plugs behind to connect to power source. It’s just the patch of grass reacting with the soil and producing a small electrical charge to the LCD screen that displays the time. I think this just proves how mother nature gives us clues to make living a little less of a negative impact on earth.
Aside from the time, it does “beautify” a nerds cubicle doesn’t it. Nothing makes the mind a little less-stressed than seeing something grow in a soothing timid way. Oh, puh-leez just keep growing regular grass alright! LOL.

But imagine the impact of this small invention affecting our lives in a huge way IF people would just think of alternative ways to generate energy than the traditional methods. You’d see our carbon prints take a nose dive in a jiffy.
