Almost every day something new and geeky finds its way to an Etsy store and often it’s difficult to keep up with all new awesome items on Etsy – or we think they’re cool but just not cool enough.

This time though, user SceeneShoes caught my attention with a serious of handmade bras aimed at old-skool gamers and 8bit nostalgics. SceeneShoes has more 8bit items in store for Mario and Pokémon fans.

If bras aren’t really your thing, you can also settle for a pair of hand-painted Mario and Luigi shoes.

All bras are hand-painted with acrylic and start at $ 30.00. Due to popularity new orders will take at least 2 weeks.

Oh, the things people do to be different. Take this guy, for example. He went ahead and created one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, and I highly doubt that anyone anywhere will ever own one of these shirts other than him. Why? Probably because it’s not machine washable, but things with a chipset rarely are.

Anyways, here’s how it works: The gentleman who designed this shirt – Chris Bell with the help of his wife Madeleine – uses an Android phone for his main source of communications. That connects to the t-shirt via a bluetooth dongle on the face, which then connects to an Lilypad Arduino. That in turn lights up a series of LEDs that are connected via conductive thread. Those threads run to screenprinted numbers on the side which show how many messages their are in the inbox. It counts by binary as well, so if he has three messages for example, he’ll have the “2″ and “1″ illuminated.

Check out the video. It’s pretty neat stuff, and it makes me a little bit jealous.

At my last job, one of the IT guys used to wear these jeans with rhinestones and patterns imprinted on them. We joked a lot about his “bedazzled” jeans and his preference to wear sandals with everything, so seeing the picture above made me think of him. That, and debate whether or not this is a marketable product.

The concept is simple: make a pair of jeans that works for the gadget friendly geek. Just like that, WTFJeans was born. For example, there’s a pocket built for the iPhone of iPod Touch, which makes it easy and simple to remove from your front pocket. That same pocket is lined with super soft microfiber, so there’s no worries of scratching that plastic lens. Then there’s a hidden pocket for a USB key, which I imagine will be handy until that first time you forget about it and throw the key in the jeans in the washing machine.

But let’s talk about some of the fitment issues that seem specific to these jeans. First off, there’s padding for your … junk. That’s right, extra padding in the delicate twig and berry area, just in case you want to go commando. Then there’s something which I applaud/hate all at the same time. The jeans are cut low in the front and high in the back, so you never lean over to grab something off the floor and turn into a plumber by accident. That’s excellent news for the guys jeans, but not so much for the girls. At least not in my opinion.

Here’s the catch though: there are only 500 more of these suckers going out onto the market, as they’re doing a limited run of 1000 pairs and 500 are already sold. Bummed out? Well you can still get in on it. And if you do, please let me know how they fit and feel. I can’t imagine why my boys would need extra padding, but I’d like to find out.

On the back of the shirt we have all the standard connectors you could want, from the (nearly) bygone SCART and S-VIDEO through to HDMI and digital inputs/outputs.

On the front, simply a standby button and a phones jack.

Sadly, this is just a printed shirt, with no working or moving parts (other than the human body wearing it, of course). I’m surprised it doesn’t come in an iPod version.

Tee (Via)

This tee shirt takes the concept a little further.

Attached to the front is a drum kit printed on a touch-sensitive pad, and when you press various parts of it, an appropriate sound is played.

There’s an embedded speaker (as you’d expect) and it’s all driven from four triple-A batteries. Apparently the top volume setting is really loud — what a great way to annoy everyone around you.

Now, you do have to go through a slightly more complicated process when you want to wash it (that’s no excuse not to wash it) but it’s surely worth it for the fun of having random strangers approach you and fondle your chest?

Which leads me to the point that you’ll need to be really careful if a girl is wearing this shirt. You could get into all sorts of trouble trying to produce all seven kit sounds.

Still, I love this concept. The Pac-Man shirt has our little yellow friend chomping up button dots, while the Tetris variant has a lot of coloured blocks at the base of the shirt and even a vertical block as the zip handle. Nice.

Even the clothing sizes reflect the design — the Pac-Man version comes in one (small), two (medium) and three (large) sizes, while the Tetris one is just available in small and large.

The great thing is that I could actually see myself being able to make this Rubik’s Cube costume. After all, what electronics/sound geek doesn’t have rolls of duct tape available, plus cardboard boxes from the latest Internet delivery?

Once you’ve sussed that, how about having a go at the 360. If you get peckish, make yourself a Rubik’s Cube sandwich.

That still doesn’t mean I fully understand why anyone would want a QWERTY keyboard – a pink, flexible, half-functional silicone keyboard – split across their lap, unless they want to do a spot of text editing on their PDA via it while on the move or… well, perhaps it’s an invitation for strangers to touch you in a slightly inappropriate way.

Found these while surfing around eBay today. I wear cufflinks about once a year, if that (and I already have a nice blue marble-effect pair) but if I wanted to wear something that, literally, symbolizes email and Twitter, I could do worse than this pair of @ links.

They’re stainless steel, too, which means more money to spend on computer gear – none of this sterling silver nonsense here.
