Twenty-five years before the events of the first game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution tells the story of Adam Jensen, a security agent who’s critical injured and forced to undergo “Augmentation” in order to survive. In the future of the first game, augmentation was handled via nanotech, but at this point in time, augmentations are mechanical. So instead of an injection into your bloodstream, you get a whole new arm or leg or eyeball, for example, that’s essentially a machine.
