A couple of days ago I found a link to a video of a college student who was recreating the popular Arkham Horror board game for the PC. It wasn’t an official release by Fantasy Flight Games, but rather a graduation requirement for school. Her plan seems to be pretty solid. Since this is a school project, EU law covers this as fair use and she intends to present this post-grad to the guys from FFG and see if some partnership can be struck. Sony shows off advanced digital voice recorders
Dictaphones: that’s what they used to be called. Today, though, those silly little cassette tapes and fiddly controls have all but gone and we’ve turned digital. In fact, after years of wanting a digital recorder, I now use my iPhone. However, there are still some nice features on these new recorders from Sony that would make me look twice at getting one. Obviously they’re digital. That means you can store a huge amount of audio on the solid state disk, with no fear of quality degradation. CD 30 years old as downloads become more popular
The IEEE has just awarded Philips its Milestone Award to mark its role in the development of the compact disc. The first “Pinkeltje” prototype was created 30 years ago (8th March 1979) with the CD becoming commercially available in 1982. While CDs might be going out of fashion now, it’s this technology that has underpinned all other optical disc formats, including the latest Blu-ray disc.
