The C64 was an awesome gaming device back in the days, especially considered the limited hardware capabilities. Manomio went ahead and brought the C64 back in the form of an emulator for the iPhone. C64iPhone is completely licensed by Commodore, but got rejected by the AppStore because the emulator breaks the iPhone SDK API, running executable code. It is expected that a new version will be released, only running the virtual emulator without BASIC code.

Until then, all we got is the Youtube preview video of awesome C64 classic such as Bruce Lee and International Karate. When finally accepted, the C64 will come with 5 games included: Dragons Den, Le Mans, Jupiter Lander, Arctic Shipwreck and Jack Attack and more will be available.

If you were waiting for a reason to jailbreak your iPhone, this might be exactly that moment you have been waiting for. Mini vMac is a complete emulator of the classic Mac Plus for the iPhone, admitted rather useless but oh so nerdy!

Named Fork ported this originally Mac OS X app to the iPhone. Because of restrictions in the iPhone OS, the jailbreak is required. Mini vMac is free and available via Cydia.

The Mini vMac app emulates the Mac Plus hardware, but you will need to provide your own OS. Once the original OS is installed you can play classic games (which you also need to own or you could find them somewhere online)

Got new gadgets and yet still craving for something reminiscent of the past? I don’t know why this happens but it does – and a lot of times. You know, we have all the newest in gaming consoles, the newest in mobile games, and yet there are times when we yearn for something from the past. The familiar look and sound of old games and applications just cannot be matched by the glitter of more advanced technology at times.

Enter the Commodore 64 home computer emulator. Dubbed Frodo, this emulator was ported from Christian Bauer’s original Frodo for Amiga. We can thank Jal Panvel and Alfred E. Heggestad for doing this wonderful task for Epoc and Hannu Viitala for Nokia 9210 and S60.

Viitala writes in his web site:

The latest version of Frodo also supports sensors (accelerometer), vibration, on-screen keyboard C64 and audio engine. To enable those those features, you have to install Bilbo library also. If you do not want just imagine, look at the YouTube video below and after that get Frodo and Bilbo to your phone! Note that sensors and vibration is not supported in all S60 phone models.
I have pasted the URL to the video below if you are interested. I wonder if this will work on my E63. I guess I am about to find out.

Yoshihiro (yes, that Yoshihiro) has release the first Beta of his Playstation One emulator. Though it’s far from playable in most games, it’s rendering the graphics pretty well and some 2D games have been reported to be at an almost playable rate.

You can grab the emulator from PSP Spot, however, you’ll have to search for the Playstation One’s firmware SCH1001 somewhere else since it’s illegal to host it. (But if you Google a little I’m sure that you’ll find something in some obscure site/ftp)

You can use the ROMs in BIN or ISO format and here’s where you need to place them, and the bios:

BIOS – ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCE__psxp/bios
ROMS – ms0:/PSP/GAME/__SCE__psxp/rom

Well, actually folks… it seems that Yoshihiro has yet again created another PSP scene soap opera… and people have started to comment that this is nothing more than a recompilation of PacManFan’s original PS1 emulator which was on the works a few months ago. Here’s a quote from him:

“I did pass the torch, However, Yoshi[hi]ro said he would at least mention me, and he didn’t. I hate to be an a$$ about it, but Yoshi[hi]ro has been claiming that he coded this thing himself. The only change he’s made so far has been to the game selection screen.”

If Yoshihiro had never done any bad deeds in the past, I’d say this is probably a misunderstanding. However, knowing what I do know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was just a publicity stunt in order to get more donations from various fans. I guess we’ll just have to wait to see what the future will bring.

The President of Sony Computer entertainment, Ken Kutaragi, has recently announced that an official PSOne emulator will be released for Sony’s great portable console and users will be able to acquire them legally through an online platform of some sort. However, there is yet no information on whether you will be able to pass your PS1 games directly to PSP.

With this measure (if it’s not too late), the PSP could very well enter a turning point and expand it’s game library by the thousands. But, you know what the best thing about this is folks?

*feels a tear running down his face*

I’ll be able to play Final Fantasy VII wherever I want… thank you Sony… *snif*

A new version has been released of one of the most popular Genesis( aka Megadrive) emulators for the PSP. It’s previous version was already quite good, all the roms I tested played and it had a nice little feature which is that it would take a screenshot of the game when you used a save state.

The older version was a bit slower than the PSP Genesis emulator however, after testing both the emulators just now with Sonic the Hedgehog at 222Mhz, clearly, DGen was much smoother in both Normal and Full Screen modes.

So, what are you waiting for, go get this great emulator and start playing your favorite Genesis/Megadrive games on the go.

NOTE: Do not download ROMs unless you own the original copy, or unless you plan on deleting them in less than a week and please do not ask where you can get them because your comment will be removed, do not ask in the forums either.
