I think that many just might agree with that title. I have heard so many horror stories about Facebook has brought about some nasty things into relationships. Perhaps those things could have been avoided sans Facebook. Perhaps not. No one can really tell, can they?

However, some American lawyers were interviewed by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) in a survey aimed at looking at divorce cases. What did they find out? Jeff Bertolucci of PC World narrates:

The survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) shows that 81 percent of the Academy’s members in the past five years have seen an increase in the number of divorce cases using social networking evidence.

Among the most popular social nets, Facebook has the dubious honor of being the leader for online divorce dirt, with 66 percent of survey respondents citing it as the primary source.

MySpace was second with 14 percent, Twitter third at 5 percent. Other online sources totaled 14 percent, according to an AAML release.

It’s not what you thought, was it? At least according to that survey, the most popular social network today is being used as evidence to put an end to problematic relationships. What I am wondering about is how Facebook comes into play in contributing to those problems? Much like any other social network, no one can deny the dangers of Facebook. I guess until someone actually does a study along these lines, we won’t know for sure, huh?

That’s a self portrait above from Nonja, an ape raised by a stock broker in 1976 and now resides in the Schönbrunn Zoo. Her daily routine is pretty much the same as any orangutan: eating, sleeping, gallyvanting, playing with the kids (sometimes spitting water at them from the cage), and updating her Facebook wall with photos of her latest escapades including movie night with the girls, shopping sprees, and drunken stupors.

Nonja is part of Samsung’s latest viral campaign. There’s not much to it really. All they did was give her a Samsung ST1000, a point and shoot camera with WiFi connectivity. All she really does is click down on the shutter. The Facebook account is operated by the zoo, as a step forward into Web 2.0 and raising the awareness of animal life into the social.

[Nonja's Facebook account]

Take it away Dr. Dagmar Schratter, Schönbrunn Zoo CEO:

“Diversified stimulus of our animals is very important to us: We achieve this on one hand with special toys and on the other hand by hiding their food, so that the animals are encouraged to find and obtain it, just like in their natural environment. And Orang-utans are especially intelligent and also very curious. As such it is only natural for them to have accepted the cameras so well.

If you want to see Nonja in action, you can also check out her YouTube page for various videos on ape life in captivity.

Over a million people have already watched the video of a groom updating his Facebook relationship status in between being “pronounced man and wife” and “kissing the bride”.

It was meant as a joke — “we really don’t Facebook THAT often” said the groom — but it proves, if proof were needed, how pervasive social networking now is.

You can bet at least a couple of people in the assembled congregation were tweeting the event or sending photos to Facebook or Flickr on the fly.

I wouldn’t be surprised if someone has lifecast their wedding, though it would be interesting to see how the some church policies would deal with that (when I got married, the pastor wouldn’t even allow normal video cameras to be used inside the church, though my dad snuck one in)

Marriage proposals have been made via Twitter. Those who haven’t already discovered Mr or Mrs Right online are using the Net to find them. It was only a matter of time.

I’m sure there are some who’ll disapprove of technology “getting in the way” of these kinds of occasions, but if it brings people together (possibly even those who can’t attend the event in person) then why not?

You’d expect this kind of thing at geek weddings, of course, but I’m all for seeing it go mainstream.

I just hope there was no tweeting from the honeymoon suite.

Not only does it allow you to inject a little of you or your company’s personality into the proceedings (have you tried doing that with a vCard?) but there are still plenty of people for who a piece of card is the holy grail of making contacts.

There’s plenty of scope for updating the type of information displayed on it, though. Take Kim Bost’s business card design which simply provides space for a “status update”.

In case you think that font looks familiar, it’s fittingly the same one used by Facebook ? Klavika from Process Type Foundry according to Ben Pieratt.

It’s a cool concept, though perhaps not the most ideal if you actually want to contact Kim again in the future. Perhaps there’s details on the back – at very least a web site and a Twitter name.

If you had this business card, would you always write an honest status on it, knowing that it could sit around on someone’s desk for months?
