There’s no secret around the fact that the PS3 is destined to have a firmware update coming fairly soon. What is perhaps more of a mystery is exactly what this update will bring, the benefits, and sometimes of course, the disadvantages. Sony to release working update this week

A week after Sony released its v2.40 Playstation 3 update and then abruptly pulled it because of complaints about its stability, the company is now set to re-release the update again this week. The new update, V2.41, is said to be free of errors now and will be made available for download by the middle of the week. This update, like V2.40 before it, will bring the much requested in-game access to the XMB as well as the game trophies similar to the Xbox’s Achievement points. Much awaited PS3 2.40 update released… then recalled

Yesterday, the Playstation 3′s much-awaited firmware update was finally released… for a few hours. The new update, v2.40, was THe update that would bring in more accessibility to the XrossMediaBar (XMB), allowing people to actually access it in-game, slight tweaks to the PlayStation Store, tweaks to the DVD and Bluray playback capabilities, and the piece de resistance, the Trophy System. First of all, please do not hold me, or ForeverGeek responsible if the downgrading of your PSP fails or renders your PSP useless. There are risks in downgrading, and if your PSP has a modern motherboard it will not work. A new motherboard would be a TA-082, and you can find out if your PSP has one or not by opening the UMD lid and try to read it on the inside. xtrusion made a nice and simple executable, so all you have to do is simply run the EXE with your PSP in USB mode and it should work. Before you ask, no you still can’t play GTA:LCS and don’t ask when you’ll be able to or if you can play it on a 1.50 PSP. I’ll keep this as short and sweet as I can with just a small warning: This downgrader works, but that does not mean there isn’t any risk in using it so use at your own risk; nor ForeverGeek nor the creator of it will be responsible for it’s misuse.
