The Top Tech Companies Resolutions for 2011

The Top Tech Companies Resolutions for 2011

Today most people are writing down or telling themselves what resolutions they will be making for 2011. I decided that I will make no resolutions, I don’t want to start the year with expectations for myself, expectations I most likely won’t meet. This year has been eventful for companies and websites alike. Apple’s iPhone 4 prototype got lost and sold to Gizmodo. Consequence: Apple’s major iPhone reveal was ruined, Gizmodo has been banned from Apple events. Gawker was hacked, Tumblr had epic downtime, Delicious almost got shutdown by Yahoo and those are just on top of my head. The people at The Joy of Tech have come up with 2011 Read more »

Home Security Innovations for Modern Living

Home Security Innovations for Modern Living

How many of us secretly love showing off our gadgets but also fear to have it stolen? When I got my iPhone for the first time two years ago I almost didn’t dare take it out in public for fear of it being stolen, which happens rather often in the city. There are measures you can take to prevent your stuff being stolen when on the road. The most known advice is to use non-expensive looking bags to keep for example your camera gear or laptop. I for one always carry a messenger bag which makes it almost impossible to be stolen by a passerby while I have it on Read more »

Dante’s Internet

Dante’s Internet

Even though I’m a geek and internet is my work and pass time, I’m still old fashioned. I prefer paper books over ebooks, I like old books like “Pride and Prejudice”. I go more often to the second hands bookshop then I go to an Apple store. Needless to say I read my fair amounts of books regularly. When I read The Dante Club: A Novel by Matthew Pearl I learned all about Dante’s Divine Comedy while the characters tried to solve gruesome murders in 19th century Boston. And as a true geek after finishing the book I went online to read and learn about Dante. The most important thing Read more »

500 Worst Passwords

500 Worst Passwords

If you are a geek or a nerd chances are small to non-existent that you have a common password for all your online accounts. Not the same can be said about non-tech people. I remember when Gmail was released and how many accounts where hacked due to people using the “secret” question of their pet name. So you can imagine their actual passwords weren’t that complicate either. One has to admit it is hard keeping up with passwords, I have so many online accounts that I have to write down passwords. I also have a system where I use one password and each site has a variation to that one Read more »

Decorate your cables

Decorate your cables

For those who don’t want all those computers and other cables to ruin their interior design there is now “Wireblooms”. These are nail-in cable clips to keep your cables to the wall while being decorative to the room interior. While personally I would like everything to be wireless, like electricity cables, monitor cables, etc. We are not completely there yet so these will have to do. This product is a pretty cool idea, currently they only have the models of a bird and leaves. But I think it would be a hit if they also had movie/tv characters, games characters, etc. With my current “The Big Bang Theory” obsession I Read more »

Practice your ventriloquism with talking animals pen

Practice your ventriloquism with talking animals pen

You know we’re approaching Christmas when the silly gift ideas start appearing. Not that there’s anything particularly Christmassy about these ventriloquist pens, but be honest — when else are you likely to buy (or be given) something like this. (If you think this is the best gift ever, you need to read our 12 tips for buying geek Christmas presents) Right, so what is it? Forget dictaphones and other recording devices. Nothing says “I’m a geek making it in the business world” more than turning up with one of these pens, recording memos on it, and then pretending you’re an ace ventriloquist by playing it back, at which point the Read more »

Food keyboard: chocolate and biscuits

Food keyboard: chocolate and biscuits

Food and IT go hand in hand. If you manage to combine both in to one item you’re on the right path. I had to grin when I saw this s’mores keyboard. Sadly there is no indication of any functionality or if it really is made out of food or just plastic. Seems like we’ll have to stick to the chocolate chess game or all the shot drinking board games.
