This year has been eventful for companies and websites alike. Apple’s iPhone 4 prototype got lost and sold to Gizmodo. Consequence: Apple’s major iPhone reveal was ruined, Gizmodo has been banned from Apple events. Gawker was hacked, Tumblr had epic downtime, Delicious almost got shutdown by Yahoo and those are just on top of my head.

The people at The Joy of Tech have come up with 2011 resolutions for all popular and major companies like Google, Twitter, Apple, Microsoft, etc.

I do miss Tumblr on the graphic; “Tumblr: I resolve to have 90% less downtime then in 2010″.

People are becoming more and more demanding about the gadgets and web services they use. Very understandable considering they where build and marketed to be used at all times. Let’s hope these companies do resolve to improve in 2011.

What do you hope to see in 2011? I for one want the market for tablets to go mainstream making the price drop, more publishers to release e-ebooks at reasonable prices and the newest iPhone to fix my breakfast.

There are measures you can take to prevent your stuff being stolen when on the road. The most known advice is to use non-expensive looking bags to keep for example your camera gear or laptop. I for one always carry a messenger bag which makes it almost impossible to be stolen by a passerby while I have it on me.

What makes this illustration so fun is that most of us deep down like to show off our possessions, it doesn’t mean we are superficial. No one would actually use these tips which even though they are so ridiculous some of them are quite ingenious.

The illustration also “insults” everyone who owns IKEA furniture and a DELL laptop which is a large portion of the people.

Have you ever taken measures to conceal that you carry expensive gadgets with you?

When I read The Dante Club: A Novel by Matthew Pearl I learned all about Dante’s Divine Comedy while the characters tried to solve gruesome murders in 19th century Boston. And as a true geek after finishing the book I went online to read and learn about Dante.

The most important thing you should know is that The Divine Comedy is a three part poem, Hell, Purgatory and Paradise. Each part is a book on itself in which Dante tells about his passage through them all.

Now if you spent any amount of time online you have your fair share of things that annoy you. Now all those are categorized according to Dante’s Internet.

The vestibule contains people who have annoyed all of us, they don’t read anything opting instead to ask right away. They make the saying “there are no stupid questions” a moot statement. And the 5th circle people should not even be on the internet. They will look for things they don’t like and complain about it.

Dante even went outside internet and granted people who talk at the theater a place in special hell. I will add also people who invade your personal space.

Dante’s Internet is one of the coolest thing I’ve come across recently, combining my love for literature with internet. Someone should make a poster of it.

One has to admit it is hard keeping up with passwords, I have so many online accounts that I have to write down passwords. I also have a system where I use one password and each site has a variation to that one password. This way the chances I forget it are pretty small.

Now there is a funny, creative and useful poster with the 500 worst passwords according to Mark Burnett author of Perfect Password Selection and Protection.

If you work in an office where you are responsible for managing the IT department, you should ad this poster to the list of office purchases.

For good measure email it to everyone you know who might need a reminder.

You can buy a poster from Etsy. They cost 38 dollars and only 30 has been printed of which a few are left.

18×24, printed on newsprint, navy blue ink, red ink cover and a light blue ink security pattern printed on the back, just for good measure.

Also I’m happy to say I never used any words or number from that list as a password!

While personally I would like everything to be wireless, like electricity cables, monitor cables, etc. We are not completely there yet so these will have to do.

This product is a pretty cool idea, currently they only have the models of a bird and leaves. But I think it would be a hit if they also had movie/tv characters, games characters, etc. With my current “The Big Bang Theory” obsession I would like to have Sheldon clips keeping my computer cables together.

Funny though that we still use such an old fashioned way like nails to keep the cables of modern appliances organized.

You just gotta love ThinkGeek.com. They have the “craziest” gadget on the internet. Who would have thought that you could be living your dreams of becoming a Samurai, well errr, not quite… and not even close. But it’s fun though to imagine you are when you bring along the Umbrella Samurai.

This one comes with a strap so you can tie it to your waist or, for fun, strap it to your back. Just don’t feel a little awkward when people around you give you a funny stare. Their umbrellas aren’t as cool as yours anyway!

It comes with a nylon scabbard and, yes, push-button opening. Handle is a little longer for the “real effect”. It does make you carry it like a Samurai sword. If you’re not the kind of geek who brings umbrella to work, well with this… maybe you’d be bringing one EVEN on a sunny day.

I’m not really sure if your golf buddies would beam a smile if they saw you bring this in for a put. Some may laugh even by the sight of it, quite an “odd” item to play with. But surely this does shout “I’m a geek” if ever you decide to bring one on the back nine.

If they had gone the extra mile to remove some of the less polished scenes, like the ones with Ganondorf for instance, I could have certainly passed as the “real deal”.

The idea is great, and I’m certain that the fan-base alone would be alone to support this idea.Let’s hope Nintendo takes the hint and brings this to the next (real) level. If they did it, although terribly, for Mario, it shouldn’t be much harder to do it for Zelda. They can probably even get some of the old props from Lord of the Rings on discount.
