Designer Nikita Kovalev has thought of a different way to use firepower by creating gun doorknobs that will be a fun addition to any gun lover’s furnishings. Her work, as shown on Behance, is an impressive set of pistols, as you can see below. The concept is called the Bang Bang Handle.

The site does not divulge a lot of details about the designs and how Kovalev went about conceptualizing the Bang Bang Handle. That does not take away one bit from designs, though, does it?

We also know a little bit about the pistols, but that’s about it.

Then there’s the coolness factor. Sometimes, you totally forget about comfort – even for just a minute – when you are faced with something like this.

That’s the Octopus Chair designed by Maximo Riera, painter and sculptor based in Cadiz. The chair is the first in a collection called The Animal Chair collection. The collection is going to feature a host of other pieces of furniture based on mammals, reptiles, and even insects. If this first piece is anything to go by, I say that we are in for eye-popping treats from Riera.  Here’s a closer look at the back of the chair.  You’d think that that was a real octopus!

If you are thinking about whether or not the chair is comfy – as I initially thought myself – this image might give you more insight.  The padding seems good enough, don’t you think? ;)

I am not a big octopus fan – although it is quite tasty, I have to admit – but this chair would look awesome in a decent library with hardwood shelves. Then again, it would be awesome just about anywhere. I can’t wait to see the rest of The Animal Chair collection!

If you’re into furniture, consider yourself warned – these beds look utterly delicious! (IF beds can be called that.)

This is called “feel seating” and is made by animi causa, a company based in Tel Aviv, Israel. Made of softballs that are interconnected, this bed can be converted into a sofa, or practically anything that you want it to be. I guess your imagination’s the limit?

If you’re a vampire – or you have illusions that you are one – then this Star Trek casket will be perfect for you. Actually, it might do insomniacs like me some good as it is sure to shut out all the noise and light. This bed is actually meant to be a casket (inspiration: STAR TREK II: The Wrath of Khan), but who says what you can and what you cannot use as a bed anyway?

This last bed gets all my votes.

Books, books, and more books! How can you go wrong with a bed that doubles as a book shelf? But, where’s the bed?

Inside the casing! Isn’t that just awesome? When it’s time for me to get a place of my own again, I think I know what my bedroom will look like.

Nice concept, but why not allow it to do more?

Could just stick a Microsoft Surface on it, or how about a variant of the Yamaha Tenori-On synth? How cool would it be to sit down and be able to play rhythms and musical patterns at your coffee table? It would definitely be a fun party object.

For the price, I’d rather take a fairly standard coffee table and build in a more interactive surface.

What does 38″ long by 22″ wide and 17″ tall ottoman mean? Well to some it may mean extra space to park crashing friends in a small flat, BUT now it seems the old ottoman has found new function… say in keeping your Rock Band controllers!

I’ve been to some of my friends’ homes and well, you’d see the “organized chaos” with those Rock Band controllers left in a corner, on a corner table, under the Christmas trees (ha! yes, some of them still have their trees!). Still some of them would compromise by putting it in their coat closets and (much worse) under the kitchen sink.

But this setup is the Vision One Computer Workstation, the pads you see there are armrests, the mouse pad, and speaker stands. It has a 3-monitor stand provision for those who like to see more things in perspective. I think this is geared towards the hardcore gamer though who just couldn’t get enough gaming experience.

It does redefine the concept of a computer station with comfortable seating ergonomic designs and the “sound surround” experience. While this provides the “rich and famous” geek the comfort, the average geeks like most of us would shy away because it’s a heft US$2,600.

Browsing the internet for more furniture designs I came across this site that may be paving a trend. This is a regular shelf, turned into a gadget power station by shelving designer Sung-Pil Hwang of Nothing Design Group.

The concept tells you to actually plug the shelf to a wall power outlet AND use the three available plugs on top of the shelves to power up your gadgets. Hmmm… good step-up functionality. Needs a little push to add more though as I feel it’s “enough” to call it a spectacular idea.

The SoundShelf designer (Polish designers Witek Stefaniak and Anielka Zdanowicz ) nailed it when they observe speakers are literally shoved in a corner and adorned with “novelty” items just to make it “blend in” with all other furnishings. This concept takes the speakers and “makes it” part of any room by making it serve a purposeful role. A hanging bookshelf or a standing DVD rack, good ideas!

Sure, the design may not be just as able to produce great sounds like traditional speaker sets, BUT as it is only a concept I’m sure if this takes off it will sound acceptable. I’ve seen speakers as small as a mouse from Pioneer, this shelf needs that type of sound technology.

Decorating your home office isn’t an easy thing to do. The first thing that you need to accomplish is to blend great aesthetic design with products that are going to allow you to maximize your productivity in the work space. The next thing to tackle is how to create the feeling that you’re in a professional work space while allowing for that space to exist within the rest of your home.
