With Game of Thrones being the most popular fantasy series these days, it was inevitable that people would go as one of the many characters in the story. Over at the Game of Thrones Facebook page, you can see some of the user submitted photos. I have chosen the three that I like most.

First up is Samwell Tarly. How can you not love that costume?

As I expected, the most common costume from the series was Khal Drogo. Throw in the Khaleesi Daenerys Targaryen, and you have got a winner.

I like how the bloody detail was added. I think, though, that even riding solo, this guy got Drogo quite well – except that he is smiling in a way I cannot imagine Drogo would do.

We love us some Monopoly here at ForeverGeek. We’ve written about its various incarnations many times.

So imagine my delight when I discovered that inside my “Planet Express” box was a special preview of Monopoly’s upcoming Futurama edition, including a game piece and other elements from the game! It was a super cool surprise, and I knew immediately that I had to share it with our readers. Enjoy!

But first, the details: Futurama Monopoly is scheduled to ship to consumers around the middle of October November, but a pre-order sale is happening now, until the end of September. Futurama Monopoly is available exclusively from USAopoly.com. It will not be sold in stores.

Angry Birds

There are plenty of Angry Birds eggs being made this year; this one gets my vote for the best due to its perfect detailing. [Source]

The egg-maker really nailed Bender’s look, but I can’t help wondering why Futurama‘s robot is so angry. [Source]

Binary code is always big among geeks, but you’ll have to decide for yourself if it’s clever or just plain nerdy. [Source]

Bumblebee (Transformers)

It can’t be easy translating the proportions of a Transformer like Bumblebee into an egg, but this one manages to pull it off. [Source]

Chewbacca (Star Wars)

As you’d imagine, there are a ton of homemade Star Wars eggs, but this one grabbed my attention with that realistic fur. Wow. [Source]

Dalek (Doctor Who)

No matter how you slice it, that is just darn impressive. How in the world did they get the eye stalk and arm things to stay on? [Source]

Death Star (Star Wars)

Never have I seen an Easter Egg perfectly convey so much with so little. [Source]

EVE (WALL-E)

Turning an egg into EVE is a total no-brainer; the character is shaped like an egg, after all. This one perfectly captures the lighter side of her personality. [Source]

The Federation (Star Trek)

The United Federation of Planets design is raised and even has a metallic sheen to it. I have no idea how they did it, but it’s awesome. [Source]

The Apple “iEgg” is shown here front and back. And yes, if it were real I’d totally use it. [Source]

Iron Man

Absolutely perfect lighting shows off the steel/glowy goodness of this impressive Iron Man mask. [Source]

Joker

Awful photo. (So blurry!) But staggeringly good work on the egg. It captures Joker’s unpredictable malice so well, it scares the crap out of me. [Source]

Naruto

Another one that manages to translate the proportions of a human figure into an egg remarkably well. [Source]

The One Ring

If Easter was celebrated in Middle Earth… well, they wouldn’t use the inscription from Sauron’s evil ring, would they. But I still love the idea. [Source]

Pac-Man

So many Pac-Man eggs, so little time. I picked this one for its instantly-recognizable depiction of Pac-Man. The ghost doesn’t come across quite as well. [Source]

Jack Skellington (The Nightmare Before Christmas)

The anti-hero from Tim Burton’s stop-motion classic is depicted in one of his most memorable moments. [Source]

Xbox 360

Another one that left me wondering how they pulled it off. I’m sure the silver is some kind of enamel paint, but the green part all but glows. Very impressive. [Source]

Zombie

The visible brains part is brilliantly executed. Love the creativity! [Source]

There are tons of untooned images out there, so I used the following criteria for selection:

1. They must be high quality, high-res images.
2. The depiction must match or come close to the true proportions of the cartoon character.
3. It must be photo-realistic. Nothing too cartoony.
4. With one or two noteworthy exceptions, no video game characters or anime. Cartoons only.

So how do you go about figuring out how many people it would take so the same swap was never made twice? You create a mathematical theorem of course and that’s exactly what Futurama writer and mathematician Dr. Ken Keeler did.

Not only did he create the theorem, they actually showcased the equation on the blackboard during the episode.

I personally don’t understand the theorem at all, but it is pretty cool that they took the time to make the episode appear as close to actual reality as they could, even if the reality of the show is complete nonsense.

Are you a fan of the show? If you are I’d love to hear what you think about the obsessive type of realism they attempt to put into a show that’s obviously extremely far-fetched.

With Futurama prepared to launch 12 new episodes on Comedy Central starting June 24th I knew it was only a matter of time before a bunch of various promotional materials arrived and one of the first pieces of promotional material is an X-Men redrawing of the cast.

Notice that it’s Fry as a Cyclops in this version instead of the already Cyclops drawn Lea. I also really like Dr. Zoidberg, the loveable, yet always confused lobster who is drawn with Adamantium Wolverine like claws.

You’ll also see other favorites including Zapp Brannigan as Magneto, which looks cool, but let’s face it Magneto is an engaging, very smart nemesis to Xavier and Brannigan lacks pretty much everything in the brains department.

My personal love of Futurama started a few years ago, with the repeats on Comedy Central. They were on so often that it became difficult to avoid them in any way, so I just went with it. I saw the humor that I missed back in 2000, and now I try to catch every episode I can to catch up. I haven’t bought everything on DVD yet, but I imagine I will soon enough.
