Strangely, the man buried here had nothing whatsoever to do with rocket construction or the space program. He just liked the design so much that he picked it for his own headstone. Extra credit: the sculpture has lots of rocket trivia engraved into it. [Source]

Scrabble

I refused to believe that this was real at first. But I found various sources verifying that this is the real deal, and can be found at a cemetery in Portland, Oregon. If you zoom in to the high-res image, you can see that each of the Scrabble spaces and tiles is actually a ceramic tile. [Source]

TARDIS

I totally want a TARDIS headstone on my grave. Okay, so this isn’t technically a “TARDIS headstone,” but come on. It’s impossible to look at it and not think of the Doctor. [Source]

Consisting of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background, information contained in a QR code can range from text, a web address, and now information on a deceased individual thanks to a Japanese tombstone creator.

The use of QR Codes in Japan is no surprise given they were created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994.

Tombstone creator Ishinokoe (Voice of the Stone) of Yamanashi Prefecture, soon will offer tombstones featuring embedded QR codes.

Known as “Kuyou no Mado” (Memorial Service Window), visitors to the resting place of the deceased can scan the code, receiving information on the deceased.

For those looking to add a QR Code to the decor of their final resting place, the codes are capable of housing information such as: pictures, video, family information, and more.

Japanese tombstone maker, Ishinokoe has developed a new tombstone that will contain a scanable bar-code behind a lockable door on the tombstones, allowing family members and friends to scan them with their mobile phones.
This is a modern interpretation from the ancient Egypt belief in providing Pharaohs with their treasure for the trip in to afterlife.

The thombstones will be equipped with a barcode, which people can read with their mobile phone and then _interact_ with their beloved in scrapbook alike style, posting or viewing memories, photos from the past.

I must admit it all sounds very vague, to me at least, and possibly even boring, but imagine having a grave with a barcode and future possible usages!

I so would let people challenge my best lap times in Race Driver: Grid. They could even see how my ghost leaves them behind.
