Remember the new Mark V “Suitcase Suit” from Iron Man 2? Whether you saw the movie or just remember it from the trailer, now you can wear your own Suitcase Suit… while riding a motorcycle.

UD Replicas is now taking orders for this replica of the Iron Man Mark V, designed as a motorcycle suit in form-molded leather to look like the original. It comes with jacket, pants, boots, and gloves, and it will be available to pre-order until September 15th of this year. The leather work is finished in red, with a metallic pearl finish; silver accents are metallic chrome with a translucent finish. The chest “arc reactor” on the suit, as seen in the movie, glows when light hits it. It even comes with removable body armor. The gloves have anti-skid Kevlar lining the palms.

The price? A measly $1,099. UD Replicas helpfully offers a three-month payment plan for those who need to apply for a second mortgage to pay for the suit.

UD Replicas will have it on display at Comic-Con later this month, at booth #2913. Final suits will be delivered Q1 2011.

Guy: I don’t care what you say, my favorite robot is Iron Man!

I don’t know about Tony Stark being a robot, but I am sure all the girls here would agree with me when I say that he can be MY robot any time! But how about a Lego creation? Wouldn’t you want a Lego Iron Man to play with?

I have been trying to look for Lego Iron Man creations online, but it seems that the only thing out there is the one created by Arvo about two or three years ago – when the first Iron Man came out, it seems.

No one really knows much about Arvo – not his real name, not anything. You can find the images of his Lego Iron Man over at Brickshelf, though. I love how he shows the different body parts and then shows the whole figure.

I wonder how long it took him to create this?

Now that Iron Man 2 is out and countless people are infected with the Tony Stark fever yet again, I believe that Arvo (or anyone with mad Lego skills for that matter) should probably come out with an updated Lego Iron Man. Anyone up to the challenge?

And now, I even watched Jay Leno just because I heard that Robert Downey, Jr was going to be the guest for tonight. I don’t even watch Jay Leno! But it’s ok, the 15 minute interview was well worth it, hehe!

You geek boys are probably disgusted by all my squealing right now, but the Ironette Dancers performed, too. So I guess that’s something to look forward to.

But what really prompted me to write this blog post was Robert Downey Jr’s really cool sneakers (aside from him being so hot) ! I had to google Iron Man sneakers but nothing similar to what he was wearing came up. I WANT ONE!

Fortunately, he did mention that it was sponsored by Nike so atleast I know where to look. I wonder if they made it specially just for him, or if they’ll ever sell that in the market. I seriously want it. Pair it with the cute Iron Man x Tokidoki cap and you get a geek chic outfit!

Seriously, I can’t decide whether he’s more appealing in normal clothes or in the Iron Man Suit, haha.

Before you continue reading on, let me remind you that this post contains a few spoilers (SPOILER ALERT!). Just warning you, because I don’t want to be the one spoiling your Iron Man 2 fun. You were warned!

1. Opening scene, when he jumps down from the plane. I got goose bumps when he landed on his knee in the middle of the stage. Same feeling I got when I saw the scene in Iron Man 1 when he first saved that middle-eastern country, city, town (or whatever, forgot the name of the place!).

2. Iron Man suitcase / Iron Man mobile suit. OMG, I want one of THESE! Self explanatory.

3. When he squishes holograms and plays with them, hehe. I know, my description sounds a little bit dirty doesn’t it, haha. But if you watched both Iron Man movies, you know what I mean. To be able to interact with computers (I want my own JARVIS! I want one!) and data that way is just waaaay geek-gasmic. I hope to the geek gods I’d still be able to experience that technology in the near future.

4. Fight scene with Iron Man’s laser death move. Lasers and two Iron Man suits beating up Iron Man drones. If that isn’t cool, I don’t know what is. I just didn’t like how they beat the villain. They could have done a better fight ending than that. It reminded me of Care Bears, for some unknown reason.

5. Thor teaser at the end of the movie credits. Again, self explanatory! I can’t wait for the new Thor movie. I sure hope it’s going to be as good as Iron Man!

I had a serious case of Iron Man 2 hang over, that I had to watch Iron Man 1 on DVD when I got home, hehe! Aaaaaah! Iron Man 2 rocks! And again, Robert Downey, Jr. is HOT, hehe! Ok, for the geek boys, you will have your fair share of eye candy with Scarlet Johansson as the Black Widow.

Did you like the Iron Man 2 movie as much as I obviously did? And what were your favorite scenes?

This might be the greatest news to ever come out of geekdom. Joss Whedon, one of the most celebrated and respected (and geeky) wordsmiths of our time, is going to be directing Marvel Studios’ big-budget superhero mashup, The Avengers. As you probably know, The Avengers is combining the stars of Marvel’s various superhero pics — Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, and Nick Fury — into star-studded blockbuster film. Whedon landing this gig is on the same level as JJ Abrams being handed the keys to the Enterprise, and everybody knows how amazing that turned out.

Whedon is best known as the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and writer of Astonishing X-Men, though he also served as a bigshot Hollywood script doctor before hitting it big with his own properties, doing uncredited rewrites on films like Speed, and helping to give voices to Woody and Buzz Lightyear in the first Toy Story. His singular talent for writing original, clever dialogue has helped give his work its distinct flair, and he’ll be doing a rewrite on the existing Avengers script. As a director, he handled many episodes of his own TV shows, as well as the big screen filmSerenity. Anyone who saw Whedon’s directorial efforts on his TV shows knows that he has a profound talent for using the camera as another communication tool, as well as a strong eye for wicked cool action sequences.

Just imagine hearing Whedon’s dialogue coming out of the mouths of Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury)! Also joining the cast will be Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Edward Norton reprising his role as the Incredible Hulk. It almost seems too good to be true that Marvel would entrust its most important property and biggest stars to someone like Joss Whedon; he has infinite amounts of geek cred, but no established box office bankability.

But you can take this to the bank: Whedon doesn’t know how to tell a bad story, so assuming there’s not too much studio interference or bloated actor egos on the set, The Avengers is going to be something special when it arrives summer 2012.

Sometimes, normal people do things that just amaze me.

Chad Barraford of Brookline, Massachusetts, saw the movie Iron Man and decided that he wanted to turn the fictional Jarvis – the talking computer in charge of Tony Stark’s home, workshop and  Iron Man suit – into reality. To do it, he used a combination of RFID tags, Twitter, IM programs and did it all using a Mac Mini.

The Boston Globe broke the story, but if you want some of the fun details and videos about the project itself, go to the Project Jarvis homepage. There you can see Chad’s videos of the process, as well as different fun steps along the way.

Of course, something like this seems like it would be pretty pricey to build. The Boston Globe tells a slightly different story.

Compared with much of what’s marketed as “smart home’’ technology, Jarvis is both a marvel and a bargain. He runs on a 4-year-old Mac Mini computer with built-in speech recognition — and virtually no additional bells and whistles. Barraford has calculated, down to the penny, how much he has spent on a DLA that does everything but brush his teeth. To date, the figure stands at $691.98. That includes wall speakers and an xTag wireless microphone.

I love homebrew stuff like this, and I’m pretty stoked to see that Chad made this pipe dream into reality, particularly for so low a cost.

The long hunt is finally over. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the next person to play Captain America in Marvel’s latest project is Chris Evans. How do you know him? Well, he’s “that guy” from Not Another Teen Movie, the lead character in Push, and of course, the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four Series. From the article:

Sources tell us the actor has not only accepted Marvel’s offer, first detailed on Friday, but that the dealmaking moved so fast it’s now all about dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.

Marvel would not comment on the development, and CAA, which reps the actor, declined comment.

Evans was offered the role in Marvel Studios’ production last week, but there was some question of whether he would accept. Factoring in to the choice was the fact that Evans played Johnny Storm, the flame-covered superhero known as the Human Torch in Fox’s “Fantastic Four” movies. Was he ready to play another superhero and take on the trappings that come with such a high-profile part?

This is a big casting, because the good ol’ Cap is going to be the lead in Captain America and the Avengers movie, so we’ll be seeing a lot of this guy. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if he made a cameo at the end of the credits for Iron Man 2.

So how do they handle the Human Torch/Cap America situation? Personally, I hate when people cross over comic books, a la Ryan Reynolds in Wolverine and the upcoming Green Lantern flick, because it takes us out of the universe. It makes it much less real, when ultimately, that’s what Marvel is trying to do – create a movie universe in parallel with the comic multiverse. On the other end, the Fantastic Four movies sucked pretty hard, and there’s little hope that they’ll be coming back to do a third flick. If they do, they’re going to have to recast Johnny Storm, but I’d be willing to bet that Jessica Alba wasn’t coming back either.

What’re your thoughts? Think this is a good casting or should they have gone with someone else like Ryan Phillippe?

A few days ago, I brought you the glory that is the Marvel HD television lineup. That was exciting, right? I mean, who wouldn’t want a television with their favorite character printed on it? Oh wait, you wouldn’t? Well then sir or madam, I do not want to be your friend.

But now there’s more. Urban Collector has just introduced Marvel and Star Trek keyboards and mice for the masses. That’s right, now you can get your very own keyboard and/or mouse with Wolverine, Iron Man or the U.S.S. Enterprise printed right across the face. Excited yet? No? Seriously, you’re being kind of a jerk.

Admittedly, these are a little bit busy, and the Star Trek model looks like it would give me a tumor if I looked at it too often.But, they are full wired USB keyboards with a numeric keypad, low profile keys, a USB port and function keys, so what else do you want? Oh, a price? I get it, now you’re being nice to me. I see how it is. Well, the keyboards go for $45.99, but if you want a matching mouse (and let’s just admit it, you do.) get ready to shell out another $26.99 for the wireless wonder. That’s right, the mice are wireless and have a scroll wheel. What? You want a matching mouse pad? Sorry, I can’t help you with that one. Maybe if you were a little bit nicer I might’ve Googled it or something, but now I’m just bitter.

I never read Iron Man as a kid. I was more into Batman, the X-Men and related teams, as well as Spider-Man to read about an alcoholic rich guy with a suit. As a result, I went into Iron Man the movie with just a few basic expectations, and came out ecstatic about the series and the direction it was going. Robert Downey Jr. did a spectacular job as Tony Stark, and everyone else involved did great, too. With the ending, I saw what Marvel was really trying to put together, and saw just how cohesively it was going to happen. Iron Man, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor … The Avengers movie was going to be awesome.

Here we are, 2010, and the next few years are looking good for Marvel’s franchise. Thor is 2011, as is Captain America, and the following year, The Avengers. First though, we have Iron Man 2, which is going to lay some more of the groundwork for the Avengers movie. And of course, there’s a new trailer online. Two words: Suitcase. Armor. Download it in 1080P for full HD viewing, or just check out the smaller iPod versions. Either way, take a peek, because it’s awesome.

You know, I’ve been saying to all my friends for years now, “Why don’t they make a hi-def TV with my favorite Marvel comic book characters on it?” Guess what? They’ve finally done it.It’s like the peanut butter and chocolate combination of this century.

That’s right, Marvel Comics has teamed up with RTC23, to release a new line of LED and LCD televisions with your favorite Marvel character emblazoned across the bottom. Like Wolverine? Pick out the 22″ LCD model, perfect for your computer or home television viewing. Maybe you want a big screen? They have a full line of 40″ LED TVs too, including an OG Silver Surfer, or old-school Captain America, as pictured above. LCDs go as big as 55″ as well, plus some models have color-coded bezels and bases, so you can have a green screen for your Hulk monitor or classic black with Ghost Rider.

So what’s the point? I mean, I’m a comic book fan, but even I wonder if this would look alright in my living room. But after thinking about it for a bit, I realized that this is perfect for a few different situations. Got a game room? Toss one of these bad boys in there and it will look perfect next to your life-size cutout of Spider-Man, and the Iron Man helmet you bought at Comic Con last year. Or, you could use one of these for your home computer setup. Pair two monitors with different characters next to each other and have them fight it out while you’re messing around online.

The cherry on top though is the pricing. The smaller monitors aren’t priced that well when compared to a Dell unit, but the bigger LEDs aren’t priced too badly considering. You can even get into a 55″ LED for under $2gs, which isn’t great, but not price gouging either.

It’s not for everybody, but for the ultimate fanboy who’s got to have it all, this is the one thing you could lord over your friends and show off with pride.

It seems that every year more and more comic books and graphic novels are making the passage from the page to the big screen. Hollywood has cottoned on that not only are these art forms quite often full of great stories but they come complete with an already made fan base who will flock to the silver screen to see their heroes brought to life.

It is with this passion in mind that I’ve pulled together a list of forthcoming (and in one case now out) movies that originated in a comic book or graphic novel.

Punisher: War Zone

Date: Now

The only film in this entire listing that is now available for viewing (it was only released here in the UK on Friday); it’s safe to say that unless you’re a die-hard fan then you are probably going to be okay about missing this. It isn’t to say that Ray Stevenson does a bad job at being Frank Castle or that jigsaw doesn’t look cool, but the action is fairly derivative and to be honest I preferred Thomas Jane’s outing as the man with the black t-shirt featuring the white skull motif.

Watchmen

Date: 6 March 2009

Arguably one of the most eagerly awaited titles for all geeks this year, Watchmen brings to the big screen a graphic novel featuring an epic story, flawed characters, moral dilemmas and superheroes without powers. The story is set in the 1980’s and the ‘Doomsday Clock’ is set to 5 minutes to midnight, so tensions are running high between the US and the USSR. Rorschach (a masked vigilante) investigates the murder of hero, only to discover the plot gets much thicker.

Alan Moore’s graphic novel of the same name should provide excellent material – but my top tip for this one is to read it in its original form before going to see the film. Whilst Moore won’t have anything to do with the movie adaptation, I’m fairly certain that everything we’ve seen so far is showing that this is going to be quite faithful in look and feel – but perhaps most importantly will offer a lot even for those who don’t know of the graphic novel.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Wolverine proved very quickly to be one of the most popular characters following the screen adaptation of the X-men comic book, so it should be no surprise that his movie comes out first. Hugh Jackman reprises his role as the eponymous character, meanwhile we see a host of other characters appear from the Marvel/X-Men universe including Deadpool, Sabretooth (Liev Schriber), Silver Fox, Gambit, The Blob and more. Should you be excited? Oh yes, the action looks great and I’m expecting big things after the frankly poor X-Men: The Last Stand

Thor

I’m a bit baffled why Kenneth Branagh is going to be directing Thor, but there we are. The plot is apparently going to feature Dr Donald Blake – a disabled physician who has an alter ego inside of him – none other than The Mighty Thor! For me, this one could go either way. I’m hoping that it isn’t too far out there, but as it is quite a while away I didn’t find too much info out on it. More info as it comes but I’ve heard a range of names mentioned for the role of Thor, including wrestler Triple H!

Sin City 2

Date: 2010

Unfortunately still listed in preproduction (so whether it will make 2010 is debateable) but the best received graphic novel to hit the big screen barring 300 was Sin City. Should the sequel live up to the original then this should definitely be a film on your list. This title is also known as ‘A Dame To Kill For’ and covers the story of the same name along with an unshelved Nancy Story and some short stories. It will return with the same look and feel and no doubt excellent action set pieces. Definitely one to see.

The First Avenger: Captain America

Date: 2011

After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America’s ideals. There’s talk of this being a period piece, which could be quite interesting. The title indicates that this may well be the first of several Avenger films – though whether you like your superheroes on their own or all together may decide on how you’ll view such a film. I’m not a big fan of Cap but I am going to withhold judgement until we’ve seen a little more.

Iron Man 2

Date: 2010

Marvel Studios completely self-financed Iron Man, and I’m fairly sure that they are quite happy that they did so, given that it was such as resounding success. In the sequel, Robert Downey Jr returns to play Tony Stark in what appears to be a role he was born to play. Still not sure on the plot of this one, but there has been talk of Whiplash/Backlash as well as Crimson Dynamo. Don Cheadle is in whilst Terrance Howard is out for the role of War Machine/Jim Rhodes.

I just saw Iron Man and I have to say I enjoyed myself. It was far better than what I was expecting– which was it was going to be crap because Jon Favreau is not exactly a director with a very impressive list of movies behind him. His only movie that I really loved was Swingers, and he didn’t even direct it!

I loved the many geek references that was inserted in the movie. Obadiah Stane, War Monger, the reference to Rhodes and War Machine, and of course, the coup de grace, the final three minute scene after the end credits. That scene alone opened up the Marvel movie canon to a whole new world of possibilities. Since the movie has been shown for more than few days now I think I can talk about it without “spoiling” it for everyone. If you don’t like spoilers though, stop reading NOW!

The appearance of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury is probably the best cameo to happen in a movie in ages. His mere appearance is a great big statement that the direction of probably most of the Marvel superhero movies from here on in will be anchored on the Ultimate universe, which is probably one of the coolest bunch of titles in comicdom. It makes my brain hurt just thinking of an Ultimate Avengers movie.  I do hope that they deliver on their titillation and come up with the goods.

What’s great about the flick is that geeks are easily able to convince their “cooler” friends and significant others to accompany them.  This is made simple because of a slick trailer, an A-list actor and lots of begging.

Iron Man falls in line as a close second – behind Spiderman – for a comic book debut at the movies.

Fans, Marvel and the studios can remain happy; all of the main players signed a three-picture deal.  Isn’t it nice when something actually lives up to the hype?

Box office competition will continue to be weak in the coming weeks, except for Speed Racer (which I’m just not feeling).  Look for Iron Man’s repulsor rays to keep him on top for quite a while.

Your eVites are all responded to. Your Roomba is charged up to take care of the messy aftermath.  And you’re ready to go on and on about the importance of 1,080 lines of interlaced vertical resolution.

It must be Super Bowl Sunday.

The funny part is, you couldn’t give a crap about the game.  You have two things on your mind.  1) You pray that everyone is impressed with your fried mayonnaise concoction. 2) You are looking forward to getting a sneak peek into the underground garage of billionaire industrialist Tony Stark and his armored and bulletproof suit.

The latest Marvel/Stan Lee superhero adaptation will be unveiled in a trailer during the Super Bowl, giving both geeks and sports fans something to look forward to.  There have already been some images and clips leaked, so we’re unsure if this trailer will offer anything startlingly new.  Either way, we’re psyched.

You see, sports fans and geeks are often thought of as being at opposite ends of the nerd spectrum.  However, let’s not forget that baseball cards are often sold where they have comic books and vice versa.  We’re all closer on the evolution chart than we’d like to admit.

Today the New England Patriots aren’t the enemy.  It’s Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges who becomes Iron Monger, Iron Man’s nemesis.

There’s something about repulsor beams and Gwyneth Paltrow that has me particularly psyched for this flick.

Here’s a new photo from the upcoming Iron Man flick coming this year. I wouldn’t go into the details of what the pic is about because, really, who would know, right? Let me just say that Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark is a brilliant casting choice. I can’t see anyone else playing the billionaire genius, Downey is that perfect. It’s up there with Patrick Stewart as Prof. X as the most flawlessly casted roles in superhero movies.

I’ve been hearing rumors that Iron Man and the upcoming Incredible Hulk flick will begin the “tie-in” move that all Marvel superhero movies will adopt in the future. This means that important cameos of other superheroes in each other’s movies will be instituted starting with the two films. Word has it that Downey may have filmed a small scene for the Hulk movie and that Edward Norton may have done the same. We’ll see in a few months if the rumors are true.
