Well, now we have seen the start of the long-awaited (by me at least) Justice League Of America/The Ninety Nine, and I have to say, I really enjoyed it. These teams ups are better designed as mini-series rather than one off specials, as the many crossovers of the Nineties will remind us. It allows space to really establish each character for the reader, especially if that reader is new to the characters. Let’s be honest, this is a shameless marketing ploy on the side of both companies and I thoroughly approve. DC wants and in on Teshkeel’s domestic market, and Teshkeel wants to use the JLA’s fame to draw attention Read more »

Comics Of The World
I must have been living under a rock to not have discovered that the Justice League Of America later this month is set to team up with Teshkeel Comics’ The 99. After all, even President Obama has apparently praised Teshkeel as a much needed effort in promoting the peaceful face of the teachings of Islam, rather than the fundamentalist visage that we are all too familiar with. Now I have been lucky enough to find the first two issues of The 99, which I found thoroughly enjoyable, but since then later issues have seemed as available as rocking horse poop. Reading the press coverage I was amazed to find out Read more »
DC vs Marvel redux?
I took to thinking not so very long ago that the epic (but exactly highest quality) DC vs Marvel could do with another sequel. Both companies have moved on in their continuities quite dramatically, even if Marvel has returned to something approximating the original status quo. We have seen the spirit of it in the very-definitely epic JLA vs Avengers, and it would be nice to see a sequel to that. (Lawyers take note here.) One could of course say that Kurt Busieks Trinity was indeed that sequel, but that only looked at one side of the dimensional/commercial divide. Personally, I think Access (or more to the point Dark Access) Read more »
The Brightest Day seems a little dismal.
As much as I an enjoying the actual series itself, the continued appearance of nonsensical ‘White Lantern’ mysteries are rather annoying me. Case in point, the recent JLA/JSA crossover, with the Star Heart driving all magic mad. Really, what was the point in the White Lantern intervention? Now I can understand why Max Lord appears in Power Girl, and it’s nice to see that Max is scheduled to prevent the events of The Kingdom by sorting Magog. But don’t all these plot threads belong in the pages of Brightest Day? On the note of the JLA/JSA crossover, too much too soon? This team is barely established, yet has done nothing Read more »

Brightest Day #1 ships today, promptly picking up the pieces from the Blackest Night. The first six pages star Boston Brand the Deadman who is of course not so dead anymore. For a career ghost, that is not a good move. Read more »

State of the Multiverse 7
get a raw deal. If you have been reading The Last Days Of The Animal Man, you will already know that Buddy’s life has once more taken a turn for the worst. Fortunately, #3 has revealed to me (maybe I missed it before) that this series is actually set fifteen years in the future. We also see a progression of the relationship between him and Starfire, (fast moving there Buddy), and the deterioration (again) of his relationship with his wife Ellen. So far with this series? As nice as it is to see Buddy have his own title again, I’m withholding judgement. Power Girl suddenly a scientist? Maxine with no Read more »
