Since the TV show ‘Alias’ I have been a fan of JJ Abrams. He went from producing a show like ‘Felicity’ to the mega cult show ‘Lost’. I must admit form those three I only watched Alias mostly, Lost also, but I never really got into it. Those familiar with Abrams work might have also seen ‘What about Brian” which was canceled after two seasons. ‘Fringe’ is his latest TV show feels like a way to keep the Lost fans.

The point is clear, JJ Abrams can manage more then one genre, he is an all around producer/writer. He knows how to attract viewers and keep them enthralled.

It is the movie Cloverfield that sealed the deal for me. Nothing more classic than a monster attack on New York City told form the point of view of a group of friends. Super 8 looks even better than Cloverfield to me.

Set in 1979 Ohio, a group of six young children use a Super 8 camera to make their own zombie movie. One night while filming near a remote stretch of railroad tracks, the children witness a truck collide with an oncoming train leading to a catastrophic derailment. Amidst the fire and destruction, something inhuman emerges. [Wikipedia]

Abrams wrote the script himself and got Steven Spielberg to be executive producer of the movie. Now, I’m picturing Signs by M. Night Shyamalan, but then ten times better. I know M. Night Shyamalan movies are not wildly liked, but I really liked The Sixth Sense and Signs. Super 8 cannot go wrong.

Check out the trailer, freshly released by Paramount Pcitures.

This trailer has clinched the deal. I do wonder though if it will draw a lot of interest and talk like Cloverfield did. They did not go down the viral marketing road with Super 8 like they did with Cloverfield. But the trailer looks good, they got Kyle Chandler, who just wrapped ‘Friday Night Lights’, as one of the leading roles.

Will you be watching Super 8 at the movie theater?

There is so much talk on every channel that I went to see it as soon as I could so I wouldn’t be spoiled by people online. If you have yet to learn about Inception read our Inception spoiler-free guide.

If you have yet to see the movie and don’t want to be spoiled do not keep reading the rest of this entry. You have been warned.

Inception had my mind struggling to understand the dream in a dream in a dream and how they wake up with a kick and not to forget 5 minutes sleep equals one hour in dream world. Meanwhile while we learn about Cobb and Mal, that they have been living in a dream world an grew old together how did they do that? Their bodies had to be fed and kept alive. In Mombasa when Cobb goes looking for the Chemist we see how people live in the dream world only but they mention they come there for 3 to 4 hours a day, they are not 24/7 hooked up.

The movies starts with Cobb washing ashore and being taken by guards to an old man, later on we learn that it happens in the dream world or more specifically, in Limbo.

This infographic clearly shows each dream, whose dream they are and the kicks. During the movie we learn about the totems and why they have one. In the end we see Cobb spin the spinner and it keeps spinning. We know that Cobb is the only one who knows how long the spinner will spin and that in a dream he can make it spin endlessly. So we are left to doubt if he really got back to his kids in real life or if the whole thing was actually a dream from which he never woke up.

I’m planning on watching this movie again and try see if I can make more sense out of it. Last time a movie got me like this was with “Donnie Darko”. Inception will definitely get a cult status.

The ongoing saga that is the development of the Wonder Woman movie is still ongoing. After being in limbo because of a number of factors (one of them Joss Whedon’s decision to leave the project) it looks like the movie is again back on track. According to reports, development on the live action movie is now moving again at Warner Bros. and Silver Pictures. This means that we could finally expect to see every fanboy’s wet dream on screen pretty soon. Hopefully the Wonder Woman movie will come out soon after the Green Lantern movie is finished.
Here’s a little trivia — if Joss Whedon had pushed through with Wonder Woman he wanted How I Met Your Mother’s Cobie Smulders to play Diana.
