E3 Expo 2015 On-Site Sneak Peek

The doors to E3 Expo 2015 don’t open to the press and industry-types until Tuesday, but when they give us the opportunity to pick up our badges a few days in advance, we couldn’t help but spend a few moments to poke around and take pictures. Yes, most of the pictures were taken outside, primarily due to the fact that very serious gentlemen in very serious looking black suits forbade anyone from taking shots on the lobby floors. But who could stop us from snapping a few pics of the banners in the halls and outside the convention center?

What we can’t show you (yet) are lifesized statues of Halo’s Masterchief, the Xbox stage, and one of the vehicles from possibly this summer’s best film, Mad Max, which is also getting a video game (not surprisingly). From the looks of things outside, Playstation is offering up fans the opportunity to play Star Wars Battlefront and MLB15 the Show without actually walking inside the convention center. Whether it’s open to the public or just available to those with badges, I’m going to bet the lines will be long for all 3 days of the event.

Expect big announcements from all of the major console makers and development studios, including a few surprises along the way, starting tonight in Hollywood with Bethesda’s first ever E3 showcase (Fallout 4 is hitting shelves November 10, 2015), but here’s a list of links for E3’s official video coverage of each media event for Monday and Tuesday, courtesy of Gamespot:

I Bet You Didn’t Know All These Things About Nintendo

While gamers of today may argue which is the best console, there is no doubt that at some point in their lives, Nintendo reigned supreme.

Who can forget memorable times with the SNES and NES? Who can forget how the Wii changed the gaming audience?

But I bet there are still some things that you don’t know about Nintendo, and if that is the case, here are some Nintendo trivia that you will enjoy.

This Nintendo trivia infographic is a compilation of bits and pieces of information that may or may not be useful but certainly fun to know.

Some highlights:

  • Nintendo started out as a playing card manufacturer in 1889. It was only in 1978 that they made their first video game.
  • In Japanese, Nintendo means “Leave luck to heaven.” How proverbial is that?
  • Nintendo’s top three franchises are (okay, you probably know these) Mario, Pokemon, and Zelda.
  • The Wii is the best-selling Nintendo system of all time.
  • In the mobile market, the DS is king.

How Nintendo Will be Releasing Games for Smartphones Now

Your favorite Nintendo characters will soon be available very close to home — in your own pocket or in the palm of your hand.

Nintendo Co., Ltd., headquartered in Japan, recently announced its intent to enter the smartphone gaming market via a partnership with Internet business company DeNA Co., Ltd., also based in Japan. The alliance will jointly develop games that feature Nintendo’s familiar — and wildly popular — gaming personalities.

The games haven’t hit the market yet but one can only assume that a new game vividly featuring Mario, Luigi, and the gang on phones like the Samsung Galaxy s6 looks great. [Read more…]

The Play Nintendo Tour Launches in LA – And Everyone was Invited!

Play Nintendo Tour
For those not lucky enough to get into E3, Nintendo took a different tack to promoting their wares. Why bring your games and systems to a select number of media and industry folks when you can bring a touring spectacle right to the fans themselves?

The Play Nintendo Tour kicked off its grand tour of the US in Culver City, California, this weekend to show off what the Nintendo 2DS has to offer as well as host continuous Mario Kart 8 competitions in the center of the Westfield Culver City mall. Parents and kids of all ages met their favorite costumed characters and grabbed a Nintendo DS to play everything from Pokemon X and Y to the Legend of Zelda and everything in between. Big favorites among the crowd were Yoshi’s New Island, Kirby’s Triple Deluxe, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. And there were lines to take part in the big screen multiplayer Mario Kart 8 tournaments that garnered the winners special prizes for taking 1st place.

Here’s just a peek at the festivities that took place from June 6-8.

The Play Nintendo Tour will be visiting the following cities in the weeks to come:

  • June 13-15 – Dallas, TX
  • June 20-22 – Charlotte, NC
  • June 27-29 – Chicago, IL
  • July 4-6 – Bloomington, MN
  • July 18-20 – Seattle, WA
  • July 25-27 – Phoenix, AZ
